I agree completely. Also, as one whose closets are basically huge black holes — not because they’re empty of course, but because everything within is either black, charcoal or navy — a beautiful kimono works wonders in giving that “twist” you and Karen have been talking about lately.

I was in a casual restaurant last weekend and there was a party going on in a separate room; a woman walked in for the celebrating in dark jeans and a belted kimono jacket and she looked GREAT.
[I try not to think about cultural appropriation when I covet one, ha.]
I don’t like kimonos so much as I like one style of Asian dresses-cheongsams, but I don’t think they’re suitable for my body type, a plus sized hourglass.
I also like the Asian style peasant tunic/pajamas/pants I’ve seen but I would wear those at home or in the summer if they were really lightweight material.
However, the real reason I’m posting is because I loved the jacket from yesterday-it was the first thing I noticed when I looked at the picture and I’m thrilled that you bought it! You look SO good in it, very flattering, lovely colors/textures etc. on you.

Perhaps because they are exotic but classic at the same time. Have you ever tried wearing a belted kimono jacket? It might be a great twist for your wardrobe.
I am mad for them and today am wearing a blouse of Asian print, a pale turquoise ground with non-repeating (this is very important)print of crysanthamums in blacks and greys with tiny red petals, I mean, it is *something*. Wide black palazzo pants and gold hoops. I dislike safe, tight prints but adore these.
I think he should give you that kimono. It would be much better on you.
So sorry, I find these too exotic to be worn over here, but might like them in some other part of the world.
I adore Japanese modern cotton prints – very quirky and stylish.
I own three wonderful antique japanese kimono, but sad to say, I hardly ever take them out of storage. I wish I knew a way to enjoy them.
I’m so with you – I love chinoiserie too. There is something about asian prints and art that speak to me.
