A friend gave us a little fig tree cutting a few months ago and assured us it would do just fine in a container. I’d say she was right; it seems to be quite happy here! It even produced a few small fruits toward the end of the summer. I’m looking forward to seeing what we get next year.
I’m not showing you my citrus trees as they are in sad need of feeding and iron. That’s on my to-do list today.

Beautiful! And I think it is so much fun to take a cutting and grow it and harvest fruit all in one season!
Impressive that it fruits so quickly from a cutting! My neighbour has a gorgeous fig tree that seems to bear copiously and could there be a better treat? (The raccoons seem to think not!)
We keep meaning to get one planted but haven’t found a spot yet — perhaps a container in the meantime is the answer.
It’s going to need a much larger pot or in the ground. Figs can grow up to 30 feet high. We have lots of them and other than fighting the squirrels and birds for the fruit they are great trees. Enjoy!

What a sweet little tree. I’ve been container-gardening for years, and am sometimes surprised by what does really well – and what doesn’t.
I love figs but have never thought of growing them. I’m impressed a cutting actually turned into a little bush…I have a bit of a black thumb myself.
Whoa, you make fig trees sound so easy. I’m wondering if I could get one to grow in my area. I love figs.
I live in Greece and Fig trees abound here…while they are fab shade trees, and provide wonderful fruit…the dropping rotting ones on the road in front of our house are a bit of a nusiance…but we love them non the less.
Oh, yikes, i need to feed my citrus too! I do love fig trees – the leaves are so distinctive. What a great idea, to keep one in a pot!
A note of advice regarding growing fig trees in pots – they need a lot of water during the summer months so keep the pot in a tray to give a constant supply. In winter take the tray away so that the pot drains well. Also, beware – snails love every part of a fig tree!
