Blonde Ambition Tour

No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you, nor does your monitor need adjusting.

I’ve hit the bottle again.

I really enjoyed the red hair, but was tiring of having visible roots just two weeks after each color application. According to my colorist, I’m about 70% “silver,” more so in some spots than others.

This is the lightest I’ve gone yet with my color, but it’s fun and I really like it!

And should that day come that I’m ready to let it go grey, it will be a lot easier starting with a lighter color.

  1. I love the change and the complexity of your new color. Congratulations on hitting the bottle.

I had my hair changed from blonde to red during my lunch hour right before my 50th birthday. It was not a planned transformation and when I returned to work, nobody recognized me. I’ve been red since that day in 1993! Who knows what I will do in the future.

  2. I like you as a blonde! I used to play with hair color a lot more in my 20s but it’s been awhile since I went from blonde to red to brunette. I was thinking of putting a few blonde strands in for fun in the summer. I love the new look (and I love those sunglasses)! XO, Jill

  3. This color looks so good on you! I think that red is trying too hard somehow, its hard to place why it doesn’t work as well while this new color makes you look effortlessly chic while seeming utterly natural. I can’t wait to see more pics!

  4. Swish! Ooo, yeah, I like that blonde on you! Fantastic choice and fun to mix it up. Going very short and white was a big step for me, but I am so glad I took it. You look fresh and summery in this post. I’ve upgraded my browser so I’ll definitely be a regular visitor once again. Whew!

  5. Looks good!
I think red looks great right after you’ve done it, but it’s hard to maintain. This will look tonal as it grows.

  6. Oh my! I LOVE you as a blond! I really mean that!!!
I have to cover my gray, too. I’m afraid blond is just not an option for me for obvious reasons. 😉
    Love seeing your doggies!!

  7. Whoa! It’s perfect for summer. I am looking so washed out and investigated going platinum last fall and then actually beginning to wear some make-up. But the more I read the more I realized how intensive the upkeep of it might be. I can only wish I was 70% silver…I envy Lisa.

  8. Smashing color dearest Pseu! What fun to go blonde. I am now totally silver and have been for two years. I was coloring my hair blonde most of my life. I transitioned very easily. Good week to you.

  9. As I have stated on other blog comments, I am not a big fan of all over color (especially dark) to cover gray/white hair. I think it is aging. My hair is turning white in large chunks. I do still color my hair, but don’t have my hairdresser cover the white chunks. Instead, he colors the rest of my hair, blending it with the white chunks, using several colors. I only have to have color done every threeish months or so, and the process of my hair turning white takes on a gradual progression. So—I applaud this change in your hair color!

The thing that is interesting about blond is that there are so many directions you can go. And, lighter colored hair is so much kinder to older skin than your previous red (which I thought looked great, by the way) or a dark brunette.

Getting older does have its challenges and deciding what to do with our hair is one of them!

  10. Love it! My hair used to be this colour (before I grew it out) — it’s now light brown with silver. Seeing the new you makes me miss my blonde!

  11. I love that look on you! And silver will look good on you, too. You look like Helen Mirren in that picture where you’re looking over your glasses.

  12. Wow, I am very impressed! You look young, trendy, chic – I absolutely love this blonde on you. Beautiful photos reminding me of “celebrity x walking the dogs” 😉
    Congratulations!

  13. Very soft and flattering. I mix my silver with my blond much easier should you choose that path..

  14. Gorgeous! I’m currently red and also finding the upkeep tedious – but don’t have enough grey for blonde to be much better. Sigh.

  15. Fabulous! And if I may be so bold, you have a real carefree spring in your step that says you’re loving it too.

  16. Pseu Psue Pseu! I LOVE it! Which surprises me- as I am partial to redheads, and am sort of meh on blondes in general- but you look vibrant and it’s fresh and fun. Love the top pic- perfect clothes to go with your new “golden” age.

  17. Wow!!! Love it – new hair colour and sunnies fabulous!! And so nice to see your cute hounds too! S x

  18. Lady, you look great with blonde hair. I was blonde most of my life until about 5 years ago when I did the really dark red thing you see in my photo. I’m back to blonde now, for the same reasons you mentioned and I’m enjoying the compliments. Blonde – or red – doesn’t suit every one obviously, but boy does it suit you.

  19. The blonde is gorgeous…great job! I think you would look good in any color, but I also battel the constant greys in between color…so I understand. But you look stunning in that first picture…so do not question your decision to go blonde.

  20. You are stunning as a blonde! It warms you more than the red did and you just glow! I too am a blonde (dark ash now) and my grays are coming in like highlights! I use a bit of color, but just to help the gray highlights.

  21. Oh I love it! I’m looking forward to getting my hair colored in a couple of weeks, it’s looking so muddy and dull. Hm, now the question is, should I try blonde like you did? It sounds like we have similar issues …

  22. Of course I have not seen you in real life, but on the photograph the lighter color is very becoming. It seems to favour your complection more so than the darker one. You look lovely.

  23. “I’ve hit the bottle again” — I laughed out loud at that one. The blond is beautiful on you! I didn’t think you could improve on the red, but I was wrong.

  24. I have been lurking for ages, just quietly enjoying your posts and learning so much. And merci beau coup for that. I am posting today because I think you look fabulous in blonde. Very youthful, fun, and classy. Great decision!

  25. Susan! You look fantastic. I love you as a blonde and think this was a very wise choice not only because it’s so flattering but less maintenance too.
I used to be blonde and often miss it. You’re making me want to schedule an appointment with my hairdresser!

  26. I feel a bit confused, but the blonde you looks fine too. Light as summer.
Do you now need to do over your wardrobe?

  27. Your hair looks fantastic Susan – a really fantastic change. It’s very flattering and very “softening”. Glad that it’ll be less maintenance too. Your glasses look great with the change as well. Curious what your husband thinks? I bet he loves it.

  28. The lighter color suits you so well, I’ll bet your gray will be gorgeous! Looking forward to seeing that, too.

  29. Haven’t posted here before, but must today. Your hair looks fabulous; blonde really suits you…well done.

  30. As everyone else has said, your hair looks great! The color is perfect, chic and summery. (And I love your sunglasses.) I agree about blonde being better as far as roots are concerned. I’m back to a head of light blonde highlights after being darker for a while for the same reason you cited: to avoid the dreaded obvious gray roots after 2 weeks. Frankly, the blonde doesn’t look as glorious on me as it does on you, but it works better with the gray. Enjoy your new ‘do!

  31. I don’t comment often, but I had to say how great you look with your blonde hair! I liked your red hair, but this new color looks sensational on you.

  32. The comments: WOW, Fabulous, Gorgeous, Great: your hair, you!, Fun, Fresh, Soft, softening, suprise, chic, flattering…

    ..and on and on…

    WOW!

    I LOVE it Too!
    Your fan and stylist!

  33. Love it. It looks so natural on you. Great decision! Isn’t it wonderful when you take a chance and don’t live to regret it. (I’ve done that – cut my hair short – my husband could not conceal his shock.)

  34. Your blonde hair looks GREAT! I went from tinted red to natural gray a few years ago. Because completely reducing the red would have been damaging in my case, my stylist suggested a golden-blond “T-top” highlighting during the transition. I loved it but my sister thought I looked like I was tiger-striped. (Her point, I asked? LOL.)

Anyway — during the transition period I found myself making some very different makeup and wardrobe color choices. I want a lot lighter and brighter. It was fun for awhile, but now that I’m > 75% silver, and 100% around my face, life is easier in many ways.

  35. Thanks so much everyone for your kind comments! The positive response has really blown me away. Yes, my stylist and friend Brian is a true artist, and if you’re in the LA area and need hair and/or makeup he’s The Guy. (He’s done many red carpet looks and celebs too.)

  36. Yes… you look enlivend and rested and very pretty. Nice move, and I’m glad that you finalized what I think was a pretty well considered process. Ya gotta feel better, just having it done. Happy outcome!

  37. I love change! And it’s a lucky gal who looks equally smashing as a blonde and a redhead. Once, I almost went blonde after an overdose of highlights–ha! And I think about trying grey, but haven’t yet. BTB,I’m crazy about your white and beige outfit, especially the sweater.

  38. Have never commented despite following you for a couple of years but had to add my voice to the chorus – you look FABULOUS with blonde hair !!!
Of course you looked fabulous with red hair too so what I mean is you look even MORE fabulous with blonde hair!.

  39. Vous etes trop belle! le blond vous va a merveille. Et btw j’adore cette paire de lunettes. 🙂

  40. Welcome to the club! I’m blond too and I think this shade looks beautiful on you. I also like your outfit. I just bought something very similar except my sweater is a rosy pink. It’s stylish, but comfy.

  41. You should let your hair be.

I think you are a stunning woman, whose strength and charm leap off the screen. In my opinion, coloring your hair blonde (and, although it is a nice dye job, it does NOT look natural) diminishes your impact, your truly owning your beauty. Few women carry of short hair as well as you. You would ROCK silver/gray hair so well—- what are you waiting for??
    My two cents.

  42. I think you look Fabulous!!! Kudos for the courage to change! I also feel a slave to keeping up with my roots… and look forward to the day I am confident enough to truly rock my grays!
