Byron and Pineapple

Remember back in June, when I planted that little bitty pineapple? Well it didn’t get very big, maybe the size of a large orange, but it did ripen, which Byron discovered first. He tells me it was a bit tough, but delicious.

  1. I grew the tops of pineapple for two years, a lifetime ago- back when I lived in Cali and had space for all sorts of gardening. I grew over 35 and called myself a pineapple rancher. Finally when one gave fruit, it took two years, somebody did a little midnight urban harvesting, lol! I never did get to try it. But I love how lovely and easy they can grow.

  2. At our house we have a saying, “curiosity killed the Cav”!
They are inquisitive dogs and are constantly checking everything out! Not one grocery bag, shopping bag or shipping box escapes a nosing from 10 year our tri-color male,Cipi!

  3. My West Highland White Terrier, Henri, simply adores the mangoes that drop from our neighbors’ tree into our backyard so much I actually composed a little ditty I sing about it: “Henri is is a Westie who lives on Kanuga and he is a mango-eatin’ boy./ His father was handsome./He was born in Havana, / Henri was his pride and joy!” Chorus: “Oh, Henri! (Enrique!) / Oh, Henri! (Enrique!) [coda] What a coral-colored, messy little boy! [repeat chorus]
“Your father’s going laugh with joy!”
The End. I suppose when one never raises human children, one tends to resort to these sorts of things for amusement. We’ve been married 30 yrs. Henri (Matisse) is our 7th Westie. I’m happy you had such a lovely result from your test. I hope your little one suffered no stomach upset: mine would have emptied their bellies of anything unusual on our white bedspread, no matter how adroitly I placed a newspaper under their chins! Why is it they always manage to do that?

    1. PBChic, oh your song is just delightful! Our “boy” eats all kinds of things, and yes often winds up “giving it back” out in the yard. (He’s very good about being insistent to get outside if he has an upset stomach.) I think the pineapple probably didn’t stay with him, being a bit acidic. But that never seems to stop him…
