Paris En Gris

Paris in the rain 1

Paris is beautiful when the sun is out, but I also love Paris in the rain. There’s no better place to wait out a downpour than under a cafe awning sipping a glass of wine.

Of course you can always duck under an awning for a bit of lèche-vitrines…

  1. It is very seldom that it rains all day in Paris. The awnings and the arcades provide such great shelter and wonderful vitrines. Each Paris window is a work of art!!! Of course, if you enjoy such things, as I do, un verre de vin under an awning can be a pleasant break. Don’t you just love Paris?

  2. These pictures are gorgeous. Thank you for posting them. It reminds me of the rainy days my husband and I shared walking along the Seine from the Eiffel Tower to Notre Dame last October. Perfection!

  3. I love a rainy day anywhere, anytime. Must be because I live in the Sunbelt but my genetic heritage is northern UK. Have walked Paris in the rain and can confirm it is a magical impressionist painting come to life! Thanks, Femme

  4. We have so much rain here in the Pacific Northwest that I am used to it but by Spring it becomes tedious….somehow Paris looks far more beautiful in the rain than one who has never set foot on their streets would expect.
Are you planning your next trip yet?

  5. Hah – photo #5 looks very familiar to me as I’ve sat in that café many times…great view of la tour and great people watching. The photos are lovely but making my heart ache for Paris. We are headed to Lyon on Saturday and I am hoping it eases my pain, at least a little bit. J’adore Paris!

  6. Great photos! I’ve been to Paris many, many times when it’s raining and it never looks as gorgeous as in these shots!

  7. I just love the French expression for window shopping. I believe the literal translation is “window licking”. The mix between the sophisticated and the earthy enhances my Francophilia!

  8. Wonderful pictures. Have you posted your hotel information from this trip? I’m sure many of your readers would love to add your recommendations to their lists. And thanks for sharing the images and the experiences!

  9. I have so enjoyed your Paris travel blog. I was so impressed by your comment about how comfortable the pewter Taos shoes were, I ordered a pair from Amazon. They are amazing! I typically wear orthotics but with these shoes they are not needed. So, thanks for sharing not only Paris but footwear as well. Sue

  10. I love Paris. Been there in the rain, but usually in the sunshine. At least a dozen times. Or more. Love it.
