Paris-Inspired

I’m still sorting through pictures and my notes about what I observed les Parisiennes d’un certain âge wearing this springand hope to have something coherent posted next week. (And I also have another blogger meetup to share!)  In the meantime, here are some hints…

  1. I have always detested Chuck Taylors and other athletic shoes. I don’t care if everyone in the world starts wearing them.

  2. I love a soft, light-colored scarf like this one – perfect for my climate. And I like sneakers with non-athletic clothing, I will give it a try.

  3. I was in Paris right around when you were, and got great inspiration from your suggestions! One thing I noticed: booties are very, very in among Parisiennes of all ages.

  4. I like the length of this scarf for summer! After seeing you and Josephine in your sneakers, I actually went to the mall and bought a pair. It was quite the decision…I am certain I will blog about it soon!

  5. I can’t wait to hear about your observations! My husband and I are headed to Paris in July and of course, I am obsessing over what to pack!

  6. I actually like Chuck Taylors. When I was in high school, I had multi-color Converse Cons high tops I wore all the time. When I tried on gray CT’s at the shoe store, my 14-year-old shook her head. “Those are too young for you.” That did it; I whipped out my credit card and bought them immediately. And I wear them a LOT.

  7. You look all set for summer with that lovely scarf. My recent purchases have been in Uniqlo Paris. They have some well cut super stretch and super long jeans and I also bought the Innes de la Fressange “cross-over” dress in the new longer lenght in Navy. Great low budget prices and on trend in Paris.

  8. nice pose, great outfit. I have a thing for scarves & have had since high school days. I recently got a great pair of slim – not too skinny white Gloria Vanderbilt jeans for a song at – of all places – Costco! Just right fit feels contemporary and lends itself to a variety of looks – casual to dressier.

  9. Love your scarf, but I don’t think I will be jumping onto the sneakers bandwagon. They would look too casual for me. I do wear athletic shoes that are clearly athletic shoes, but for their stated purpose. I don’t tend to wear them around the city unless going to my exercise class.

  10. Back on home turf again – oh well. You’re still looking stylish enough to be wandering the Champs Elysees and Montmartre!

  11. Sitting at my desk at work – on casual Friday – with my grey (low-cut) converse sneakers and skinny jeans! And I am startled by the fact that I’m 70 years old and don’t feel out of place!

  12. I’ve been into looser/slouchier fits lately. It took a while for me to try this since I used to be overweight and wearing looser clothing makes me worry I’ll be seen as bigger than I am. But I’m now enjoying the look of a slightly oversized buttonup shirt over skinny pants. I’ve also taken to dangly pendant necklaces and more ’70s-inspired colors and clothing.

  13. You give me hope that I won’t look too “ugly American” in my orange mesh Propet slides…

  14. I am just not loving the sneaker trend. I like ballet flats but they don’t fit me that well, so for flat shoes I am moving toward loafers/driving mocs.

  15. Your Paris-inspired outfit is making me smile. When we were in Paris last fall, I wore a version of this outfit nearly every day we were there, although my color palette tended to gray and navy instead of black and cream. I wore gray Converse most days and spent the week feeling stylish with nary a blister.

Can’t wait to see more of your pictures!

  16. I don’t mind Chucks but they (and any canvas closed shoe) make my feet sweat, even with socks- so i wear leather Ecco ‘baskets’.
Actually this look has been seen all over Montréal for ages, so I do not think of it as Parisienne.

  17. Perfect, and yes, this is definitely spot-on to what you could see on women of all ages! Love it and you have the attitude in your posture too!

  18. Love the sneaks – and the scarf! Need a new set of trainers, but maybe I’ll go Converse instead! They work because they’re clean, white and not high tops. Very rock’n’roll without being too young or out there. And probably as comfortable as anything!

  19. I’m sorry, but I do feel that the skinny pant leg is terrible in so many ways! Even if your legs are perfect, they look so uncomfortable and not in the least elegant. There are SO many femmes d’un certain âge who would look so much better in a straight-cut pant that doesn’t GRIP them around the thighs and calves!
