Nuxe cleanser, Nuxe lait démaquillant confort
Nuxe Cleansing Milk

Le monsieur and I have a standing joke that we always forget to pack something, even though it’s on our list. This time we realized as we landed in France that we’d forgotten our folding umbrellas. Our first morning in Versailles, we hoofed it over to the nearest Monoprix to pick up a couple. Of course, I also wanted to take a quick pass through the parapharmacie (Monoprix’s name for their skincare section), and since I had also forgotten to throw a cleanser into my pouch of travel-sized liquids, grabbed this one on on the fly.

Long story short, I LOVE this Nuxe cleanser. It’s very soothing and moisturizing. It’s great for mature or dry skin and non-irritating. Those with sensitivities to fragrance should be aware that does have a rose scent (which I personally find lovely and adds to my enjoyment of using it, but understand it’s not everyone’s cup of thé).

Have you tried any products on a whim that became your favorites?

  1. I often buy beauty products on a whim and sometimes I become loyal to the item. I bought a few Nuxe lip balms in Paris on my last trip. I love them. And I purchased Weleda toothpaste on a whim several years back and now that’s all I use (unless I run out and have to use my husband’s Crest).
Funny that I also forgot my umbrella while visiting Versailles back in 2008. I bought the cutest burgundy umbrella with a golden yellow fleur de lis pattern in the gift shop. As cute as it was, it was also very cheaply made and soon fell apart once I returned home to California. Bummer!
Can’t wait to read more about your fabulous trip!

  2. I am like a child in a candy store in Monoprix or Boots. I buy small quantities and leave them for the next guest or cleaning people. Good inexpensive products are readily available in Europe. I’ve bought the Nuxe product and liked it and I just bought some Simply in Boots today. It’s all part of the adventure.

  3. I’d already mentioned the Dutch chain HEMA, which has similar products and innovative design. I like their skin-cleansing cleam, with no perfume, very much. HEMA now has many shops in Belgium, and has also expanded into France and Germany. Websites are all HEMA with the appropriate country suffix.

  4. I recently discovered (and took the plunge for) Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse, a dry oil that can be used for face, body and hair. It works beautifully (and best, imo) sprayed on the body while still wet after a shower and rubbed in. It saves lathering up with lotion after the shower and is lightly scented. I love the product, though I realize that I would not be able to travel with it if I were only using carry-on luggage. Now I am very curious about the face wash! (Did you bring it home?)

    1. Nicole, yes I did bring it home. Because of our wine and my skincare purchases, we checked bags on the way home.

  5. On my first trip to Fiji, I discovered the Pure Fiji line of locally made and organic cosmetics. All of their items smell delightful and feel like a million bucks on my skin. My favorite item, Exotic Oil, is terrific for everything from makeup removal to after sun care.

  6. About six months ago, I was in Ulta picking up some “supplies,” and one of the consultants suggested I try a CC cream by Studio Gear. I had no idea what it was, but she assured me it was a wonderful alternative to wearing foundation — much lighter and more natural. Took it home and LOVED it. I haven’t been near my bottle of Bobbie Brown foundation since. Highly recommend it. In fact, I’ve gifted it to a couple of friends to try because I love it so much.

  7. I love Nuxe products too. Do you travel with make up removal wipes? I understand that they don’t ‘count’ as liquids. Also Bobbi Brown makes a wonderful precleanse facial oil that I love. Part of my ‘carry-on dilemma’ is the skin and hair products. But going to the pharmacie in France is a good solution to that issue. Welcome home! Sally

  8. The sad end to the story begins when you fall in love, but the now-loved whim-purchase is not sold anywhere in the States (even on Amazon). 🙁

    1. Karen, I hate it when that happens! Fortunately this particular product is available here. 😉

    1. Hi Barbara, it’s available at Nordstrom and I’d imagine any other store that carries Lancôme products.
