Shop Like A Parisienne

Shopping Like A Parisienne

French women love les soldes, but also have a reputation for shopping wisely, being discriminating and not buying just because something is on sale. They look for pieces that can fill a wardrobe gap, replace basic well-worn and loved items, and perhaps update and freshen their wardrobe. While les soldes are only held twice yearly in France toward the end of the season, we’re fortunate here to have more frequent sales and markdowns. Below are some classic wardrobe items from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale that une Parisienne might be delighted to add to her fall wardrobe.

  1. Love the sleek moto, and I haven’t met a pair of ankle boots I don’t want to own! Two more months here, though before I consider wearing either. Great picks, xox.

  2. Nordstrom is supposed to come to Ottawa this year. Yeah!
I love the title of your post. Now I will be singing that line “Shop Like a Parisienne” (in my head, of course) to the tune of “Walk Like an Egyptian”…all day.

  3. Hi there, Love your blog, first time commenting. Fall is my favourite time of year, the chance to bring out (and buy!) cozy new sweaters, and wear boots again. I love the fashion you highlight on your blog. My blog Stonecropsister.com is for women of all ages as well. It is nice that we are at the point that fashion is no longer only for younger women. I hope you would check out my blog as well. thanks! – Nancy AKA Stonecropsister

  4. really nice choices as usual. I like that you reminded me to shop with discrimination–filling in gaps and replacing. I seem to have 20 pair of jeans at this point: dark blue, black, gray, white–long, cropped, etc. *sigh*

  5. I love the Anniversary Sale! I bought the Veda jacket (the sleek collarless moto shown above). After a year of buying and returning motos – here’s what stood out- the leather is soft and rich (so many aren’t) the length is right. Most motos are VERY cropped – harder to add to a professional wardrobe that converts to fun on the weekends. This length is perfect. Lastly – soft and fitted like the Rick Owens – but a bit less edgy and a lot less expensive. For this (very fun) but late 40s professional – perfect. I also bought the Rag and Bone knit moto – love!

  6. Hello,

Whenever you post items from Nordstroms I am unable to see the images. The problem only occurs with Nordstroms, as I am able to see your daily pics. Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

    1. Hi charlieg, I’m sorry but I’m not sure why occurs. If there’s any ad blocking software on your device or browser, it’s my understanding that can sometimes prevent the widgets from displaying.

  7. Since I got laid off I’ve had a shopping moratorium. Besides the money, I don’t need a lot of clothes now, especially if I can be self-employed (baggy shorts all summer – yay!). But what struck me about the first pictures is the sleek style. While I love retro dresses and pretty florals, I don’t feel they suit me. These clean lines are what I need to remember when I shop. My mantra will be “Shop like a Parisienne!”

  8. That’s pretty much the way I shop! Speaking of shopping, I did hit up Nordstrom during their anniversary sale (actually before, by appointment) for a few things that were on my list.

  9. I got the Pendleton coat you picked in your earlier Nordstrom Anniversary sale post. It’s great! Very good quality and a bit of a 60s vibe you don’t see in the photo .
