Le “No Brainer”

Eileen Fisher sweater and jeans, leopard flats

It’s good to have a “no-brainer” outfit or three on deck for those times when you want to look pulled-together, but don’t want to have to work at it. The neckline and boxy shape of the sweater + the big hoop earrings + the slim ankle pants + the pointed flats all come together to suggest a late 50’s/early 60’s style vibe that really appeals to me. The sweater is linen and surprisingly cool, even on warm summer days.

Earrings: Argento Vivo, similar // Sweater: Eileen Fisher // Jeans: Eileen Fisher, similar // Bracelets: Stella and Dot here and similar // Shoes: Stuart Weitzman, several years old, similar.

Easy weekend outfit

What’s your “no brainer” look? Bon weekend!

  1. Very similar to yours…Simple, casual, chic…Always feel if I’m out running errands and a lunch date, or something else, pops up I’m pulled together enough to go about anywhere.

  2. You look fabulous! Those shoes…wow. Have been debating on buying some Clark’s leopard print pumps, going to take the plunge.

  3. I’d have to say that my Le no brainer would be the exact same thing. I just would love to find some leopard shoes for my terrible feet. They need the kind of support in Dansko but I’m so limited in colors and designs.
    Nice Stella & Dot!

    1. Joni.
I recently purchased a pair of Dansko Olivia shoes in a leopard calf hair from Zappos, and they are divinely comfortable for my wide feet! I wore them all over Chicago, walked miles in them. While they are not as elegant as the ones pictured above, they are similar in print and very comfortable! Check them out!

  4. You really don’t want to know:). Let’s just say that these days it involves gray suede Birkenstocks and some old, old, Levis 501, rolled up. Oh, and a tee, wood watch, and earrings.

  5. Very chic for a “no brainer!” The leopard print shoes add just the right amount of spark to your “go to” ensemble. Lately I’ve been throwing on large square scarves over jeans or leggings!

  6. Very cute. I love your glasses, bracelets, and those pert shoes! You are right– there is a definite late Fifties feel, one that I also like. If you ever see stills of Doris Day from that period, in her “real life” clothes, there is a similar feeling. I’d love to see you in another of her looks, slim pants and a crisp shirt, worn out and loose, collar turned up, and then belted, in a color that plays up the blonde good looks you both have. Like maybe soft coral-pink, or periwinkle? But possibly you said you are not a fan of overt color? Not sure….

My uniform sounds like it might be quite different from most of your readers. I don’t look good in pants, so my go-to every day outfit is a slim denim skirt or swingy twill skirt, the aforementioned buttoned shirt, tucked in; linen or jean jacket in summer, thin cardigan in winter. Love tights. Ballet flats or other fairly low heeled shoe or wedge. My favorite thing is to accessorize, and I love silver and steel bracelets and either a steel bracelet watch or leather strap oversize faced watch, a meaningful pendant like a pearl cross, and/or a long rope of pearls or long flapper style beads wound and wrapped in various ways…

  7. It does have that kind of cool beat vibe I like. I must say I just throw on one of my many French house dresses (aka tablecloth dresses) and I’m good to go. Whether I’m hanging around the house, out at the cafe, teaching a class, or taking a stroll – I feel good and am comfortable. I just add groovy shoes/ sandals and maybe socks. Thanks for stopping by Project Minima.

  8. Your no-brainer look is perfect, but I’m finding myself less and less comfortable in jeans lately (I can’t STAND all the spandex now in denim, feels like I’m wrapped in rubber). Black slim ankle pants (a la Eileen Fisher) stand in for jeans in my own no-brainer alternatives.

  9. I love to wear jeans with a plain black shirt and dress it up with some colorful jewelry you look great greetings from Washington
