up, with olive

J.Crew chinos, Michael Kors jacket, Balenciaga bag, leopard pumps

Like James Bond, I prefer my martinis with vodka, but stirred, thank you and with as many olives as can be skewered on that little plastic spear. Olive is also a great addition to any wardrobe and these chinos from J.Crew are quickly becoming a workday favorite. If you’re in a Business Casual workplace that doesn’t allow jeans, they’re a great pants option and are available in other colors too.

Jacket: MICHAEL Michael Kors // Tank: Eileen Fisher // Cuff: Hermès Collier de Chien, similar (more options here) // Bag: Balenciaga // Pants: J.Crew // Shoes: Cole Haan

Much ink has been spilled over the LBD, but even more important in my wardrobe is the LBJ (Little Black Jacket). This one from MICHAEL Michael Kors is a great little piece and punches well above its weight. (I bought mine last year, but it’s still available.)

Cole Haan Bradshaw pump leopard

I was SO happy to see the folks at Cole Haan have added a classic 65mm heel pump to their fall lineup. Between that and the perfect pointy toe (with a vamp just high enough for no toe cleavage!) these may be the best leopard pumps ever. While I wouldn’t wear them to walk in all day, they are perfectly comfortable for a full day at work (including doing grocery shopping on my lunch hour). If you are in between sizes, go up to the next 1/2 size.

It’s Friday, so do tell…what’s your favorite cocktail? (Alcoholic or Non)

  1. Since you asked about favorite cocktails, I want to mention a recent discovery–mixers by a company named Bittermilk. (http://bittermilk.com) We especially enjoy the Tom Collins mix and the Whiskey Sour mix at our house.

  2. That’s 100% my style! I just dyed a pair of light coloured trousers into exactly this shade yesterday. I love them because they have a great fit but the colour didn’t match with my autumn wardrobe. They came out perfectly and I’ll show them shortly – probably in exactly the same styling!
Of course those heels are awesome, I love animal prints and they add a very stylish touch.

  3. The Clark’s pumps are incredibly comfortable; I’m just transitioning back to work-type clothes after years of being a student and bought the black version of the Clark’s Sage Cooper leopard-print shoe you posted. I wore those shoes to teach and so was pretty much on my feet all day, and they were comfortable from the moment I put them on until I took them off. I’m thinking about the leopard ones, too! Love this look very much; too casual for me for work but perfect for the weekend.

And I’m a vodka martini kind of girl, too.

    1. Tickie 2, true to J.Crew sizing, yes. These are the Petite version, which I buy a size larger than if ordering the regular version. I like that these are fitted but if you prefer slouchier you can size up.

  4. Definitely my kind of outfit – need to find some relaxed jackets and the one you’re modeling would be a good place to start! Ummm… favorite cocktail?? That’s a toughy since I write a cocktail blog – but right now it’s the Twice Smitten – aperol, gin, demerara syrup, lemon juice and mint – sooo good!!!

  5. I love both the trousers and the jacket, and that is a particularly lovely olive green. I had two pair that identical shade and wore them to bits, as indeed they were a bit more dressy than jeans, but not too dressy for my taste.

I don’t really like white jeans or jackets, so I just didn’t say anything; they did look very nice on you. Mine would be covered with (black) cat fur, ink and other wee spots.

As for cocktails, I’m much fonder of wine; may I simply choose a crisp white, such as a Chablis?

  6. Love this outfit and have similar items already! Just have not put them in that combo but I will now! My olive pants are a bit lighter and from J Jill ~ very comfortable. And my leopard shoes are flats but I’ll improvise. After I finish the Whole30 that I’m on I’ll be back to my favorite summertime drink, Grapefruit vodka with soda & lime. Love your blog!

  7. This is probably my favorite outfit you’ve ever shown! J’adore everything about it – the color combo, the Hermes cuff, the B bag and those fabulous leopard shoes – MEOW! After three years of searching, I’ve never found a perfect fit for me in leopard pumps, but these will definitely be on my must-try list. As for a favorite cocktail, when I imbibe, it’s red wine for me. I’m partial to La Crema Pinot Noir these days…

  8. Love this look, and you are absolutely correct, EVERYONE should have a pair of olive khakis. I shied-away from them for years after having spent a chunk of time in the Air Force, but this year I bought a pair..in olive khaki CAMOUFLAGE. What goes around comes around, I guess. LOVE your leopard shoes and Balenciaga bag.

  9. Olive is such a good neutral – just enough color, but it really goes with just about everything. I especially love it with those leopard pumps! Favorite cocktail? I usually stick to wine, but I do love a good kamikazi once in awhile.

  10. Oh dear, I had forgotten about lovely olive, probably because I had begun to associate it with military, but these are not military in the least. Great neutral! Thanks for the reminder. And the shoes are perfect, you’re right.
My fave cocktail? I rarely drink alcohol but when I do it depends on my mood. Ever heard of a Corpse Reviver?!, made with absinthe. Pass. Maybe a daiquiri today…

  11. Your stunning bracelet and bag are so spiffy with your pants! Favorite non-alcoholic summer drink is very cold cranberry juice mixed with orange juice over ice (two thirds cranberry to one third o.j.) with a slice of lime. Pretty colors! Occasionally will add ginger ale, which turns it into a modified “horse’s neck”.

  12. You look fabulous in that outfit! I’ve never really considered olive, but I think it will be a nice addition to my cooler weather wardrobe. As far as cocktails go, I saw a recipe in Martha Stewart Living for a one called “carafe.” The ingredients are fresh fruit, a bit of sugar, basil, vodka, and Prosecco. It sounds ambrosial!

  13. Olive looks so good with your pretty hair. I loved it as a blonde but with my black locks it no longer feels right.
I’ll have a Cuba Libre with a bowl of olives on the side – cheers! x

  14. OMG, your handbag!! 🙂
Yeah, lots of olives! And make mine dirty. Lately, I’m enjoying mojitos that my DH makes with fresh mint from our garden. I like absinthe, too, not too much sugar.

  15. I stared at this post for a week, then acquired my own pair of olive skinnies (NYDJ, which fits my curvier figure nicely). Don’t worry, we won’t run into each other – I am in New Zealand! I love how you show that both brown and black play so well with olive. I’ll be mixing my olive skinnies with paler shirts for spring. Leopard print, botanical print, and one with a HUGE coral rose on the front, and also with cobalt.

  16. Olive it .. olive it all, every bit. Love your choices for go-with, too, and you look ready for fall, or for anything you put your hand to. Excellent bracelet … a lesson, as I have a large black cuff I don’t wear as much as I’d like. As always, you inspire.
