Wishful Thinking

Eileen Fisher linen sweater, skinny jeans

While not chilly, the return of morning and evening coastal fog since last week means it’s been cool enough to break out the lightweight linen sweaters. Experience has taught me this won’t last (September and October are often our warmest months) so I’ll seize any opportunity to wear anything remotely fall-ish for as long as the heat remains at bay.

The sweater is from the current Eileen Fisher collection and is one of those great transitional season pieces. Bien sur, I didn’t need another sweater with an asymmetrical hem, but the shape and tweedy look of this one combined with the deceptively open weave (meaning wearability in middling-warm temperatures) made it something I knew I’d wear frequently.

When does Fall usually kick in where you live? Are you champing at the bit to wear any of your Fall clothes or are you still enjoying summer styles? Or Winter/Spring for those of you in the Southern Hemisphere…either way are you eager for the new season?

  1. Love this sweater. One of your best looks yet. (I know I haven’t been following your blog very long, but I went back in the archives.).

  2. Love the sweater-looks SO good on you! It’ll be 90 here today in Aix, still in full sundress and swimsuit mode. There are some cute fall looks in the boutiques, but it’s even to hot to try them on!

  3. It seems we are both into transitional stages – in between seasons, although it is still winter, our summer is slowly coming, requiring those in between sweaters like you are wearing. Very nice weave indeed, and I love the Grey! Your heels seem very comfortable, I wish we had more “in between heels” in store – pretty pair!

  4. LOVE the fabric of that sweater. And the layered necklaces. And the JORD watch! I wear mine pretty much all the time. Twinsies:).

  5. I’ll take those shoes in every color please. The sweater is stunning too.

I look forward to fall and its many layers. September has become my favorite month. Felt hats are lying in wait.

  6. We have been enjoying warmer temperatures so Fall dressing is not yet on my radar bug I do like your new sweater….love those two necklaces worn together as you have chosen to do so….

  7. Your sweater has such a lovely texture and shape! I’m praying for a late autumn, it’s usually around September in these parts. If it were up to me it would be summer all the time!

  8. Love the sweater – but how do you keep from getting picks and pulls? I have several EF sweaters similar to the one you have on – which I don’t wear often because me rings, watch and bracelets get caught in the weave.

  9. The sweater is great, and a good match to the fab shoes. I can’t wait for autumn, so tired of hot weather… In Finland hot weather also means that temperatures don’t go down at night, and my flat has been a sauna for the past couple of weeks… But it rained (a bit) today! So, tomorrow will be just a little cooler…

  10. Really great look. I can’t wait until fall – I’ve never been a fan of summer clothes. But I know we have a number of months to go here in Southern California.

  11. I don’t particularly like summer clothes. I love fall clothes and have been pleased by the rather cool summer we’ve had in the Chicago area. I’ve had several occasions to wear sweaters, especially in the evenings.

  12. I haven’t checked your blog in quite a while and I just wanted to say, “You look fabulous, darling!” I love you as a blonde! Great new look!

  13. Oh, Fall? Here in Houston, that may start in November if we’re lucky. So I am still all about linen shifts and sleeveless tops (in spite of my flappy arms) and shorts. Fall clothing is but a dream.

  14. As a Petite women I find it challenging to find great Fall and Winter pieces that fit properly and don’t overwhelm my already voluptuous shape. I’m still trying to find the time to clean out my Summer Closet, nevermind Fall LOL! Having said all of that I’m really loving the asymmetrical sweater. Oh boy; now I am thinking about Fall 😉

  15. I’m suddenly thinking about fall, but no cool weather in sight for us. Lovely look you chose to celebrate yours! You look dreamy and gorgeous, and styled this fall-ish sweater perfectly. Glad you have some cool mornings, but I’m sending you some additional rain to go with.

  16. We are seeing tinges of color on the trees now in the Northeast. Of course, it’s probably due to the unstable summer we have had. Very few really hot days and lots of rain. But fall usually arrives the second or third week of September. We just hope that winter doesn’t set in late October, because it lasts forever. By the way, the sweater is lovely, but the glasses are wonderful. Do you mind sharing what brand?

  17. Unfortunately there was no real summer at all… currently our temperatures are in the low 60ies and I had to put my radiators on in the living room… not fun in August!!
Your sweater look is definitely perfect for my area right now! I love the double necklace – and that second photo, Your skin looks fabulous!
