Pauline of Covered Perfectly has been adding new pieces to the collection! Like my other Covered Perfectly tops, this color block top was so soft I didn’t want to take it off. It’s also available with red or coral inserts. (Be sure to use code UF20 at checkout for 20% off.)

Earrings: Stella and Dot, similar // Top: provided by Covered Perfectly // Jeans: Citizens of Humanity // Shoes: Clarks, no longer available, similar // Bracelets: Stella and Dot here and similar

After years of Skinny Jean Domination, flares and bootcuts seem poised to be the next big denim thing. Or one of them, as that seems to be how trends go these days. They certainly do elongate the legs. I was inspired by the outfit below to pull out my Citizens of Humanity bootcuts to pair with this Covered Perfectly top.

  1. I never gave up on bootcuts! I’m tall and have large feet, and like how the wider hem covers part of the shoe, making my feet look a little less boat-like! The Covered Perfectly tops do look cozy. I’d love to see a long sleeve, though.

  2. I prefer a slimmer cut jean. Even though bootcut jeans would supposedly be flattering on me, I have never liked them. They look great on you–I’m just not comfortable with the look on me. I think this top will look great with black pants too. Would you show us?

  3. Boy I grew up in the 60’s and 70’s and am happy to see flares and boot cuts in my rear view mirror, LOL! I love skinny jeans (narrow straight legs on me) because they can go with ballet flats, sandals, or heels. I find that flares and boot cuts work with only one heel height (and it is so hard to get even that right). Plus I am a bit skeeved out by hems that drag in the dust and dirt.

    1. Pam, that’s why I think no single jean silhouette will ever replace the others. We’ve become used to wearing jeans for many occasions, and want the versatility of different cuts.

  4. BTW I meant to add- you got the pants length perfect! I am petite but maybe long-legged- petite pants are often too short and regular too log- hence the skinnies that can scrunch up!

  5. This is a great blouse and I am so glad to see that Covered Perfectly did it! I love my INC Concepts Skinny Jeans and my NYDJ…both are dark wash and I do wear them often. This is such a good look…I really like the color block design!

  6. I disagree with the commenter above about this top on you. I think it is flattering and there is no issue with that color–especially framed by the black. I think it’s an elegant top and I would also like to see it in a long sleeved version.

  7. I’m too lazy to have different silhouettes of jeans. I pretty much wear only slim tomboy cuts now. The flares look great on you though.

  8. You look great! And I LOVE the top! I think black and tan create such a stylish look together. As for flares, though….They look great on many people, you definitely included, but I have never liked them. I remember that right before the skinnies came back in, there was a brief period when extremely low-cut flares were popular. I feel sloppy in flares–like a little girl wearing her big sister’s jeans. My personal style is much more tailored and clean-lined, so I love my skinnies and will keep wearing them as long as I can!

  9. Wow, that flared silhouette is PERFECT on you– what an ultra flattering cut. I don’t have a favorite jean for myself– as I have long bemoaned, I am wide-hipped and long waisted, therefore pants on me are just not good.

But couldn’t live without denim– it’s just too great an “everyday” look for me. So I wear a lot of jeans skirts of a variety of cuts. My favorites are a couple of straight, pencil-ish skirts that are knee length and just ever so slightly pegged toward the bottom. It’s by far the most slimming look I’ve found for my body type, after a lot of tedious experimentation. Wear most often with a cinched leather belt, crisp shirt and the obligatory long chains and/or pearls!

  10. I second Ginger above – I can’t get my feet thru’ skinny jeans and never liked leggings except for dance classes because I am petite with average-to-large size feet .

  11. This looks great on you. My daughter advises me to ditch my bootcut jeans and stick with skinny. She sees the skinny ones as elongating and the bootcut as shortening me. I think bootcut balance a curvy figure so I will not give them up (and hope to fit into them again :o). On another note, anybody else being prevented from opening the links to the items featured? I wonder if my anti-virus just doesn’t want me to be fed those ad links that will show up later on other pages that I browse. Just wondering if others are experiencing the same.

  12. I have worn and liked a flared jean in the past and found them flattering when worn with a heel. But in our climate, they’re really a bit silly, slurping up rainfall as if their last incarnation had been a cleaning sponge. A rolled boyfriend or skinny jean works so well for my lifestyle that I hope the style sticks around for some time. And I sense that it will — the zeitgeist seems to be one that honours Reality as much as Fashion — so I think there’s room for diversity, and when there isn’t, I think we’ve got feisty enough that we’ll wear what works best anyway.
Mustn’t forget to say, though, that you look great in your flares — and you’re obviously not worrying about the hem getting wet where you live!

  13. You look great as always! I have always loved your blog.It is a daily ritual for me along with my morning Java.Your style & beauty tips have always been spot on.When I first saw Pauline’s tops on your website I ordered one then 3 more.looks like I might be ordering another. That could be a good top for your upcoming trip & be cute with a black skirt.
I also appreciate that you include clothing that is Plus size in your blog.
Thank you again for my daily dose of style.

  14. Very off topic but i am in Paris now and yes, in the 11th arr and have not made it yet to St germain de Pres but …. There are plenty of nonslim and even frumpy Parisiennes! Sure, some girls with no hips at all (never mind bust) but they are mostly really young. Sue, i tried to find Metal Pointus today but no store on rue Charonne as per Web… There seems to be no info on the one in the Marais. Website goes to forbidden page. I think they may be fini. Dommage because today is my 60th bday and i wanted to buy one of those fab bracelets like you got in Paris!

    1. Judy, look on Rue Francs Bourgeois in the Marais. That was the Metal-Pointus store I found in May. It’s very small.

      1. Merci, Sue! Found it and got one … Manchette? They are altering it for me. So strange that that location is not on the web except for a yelp review, and other locations listed are closed.
