polished casual

Eileen Fisher jacket, skinny jeans, Ann Taylor blouse, Cole Haan suede pumps

This was one of those looks that came together without a lot of fuss or effort, and was a great reminder that I’m often happiest with results when I don’t over-think or over-style an outfit. This was an out-to-dinner outfit, but could easily be adjusted for the office by swapping out the jeans for a pair of slim black trousers, and adding a day bag.

  1. I just love this look on you! For me the simpler the better and everything works so well together here. Softly tailored pants always make me feel more polished and a silk shirt too.

  2. On my computer, the shop the post links are showing up as code and not a link. Perhaps it’s because I use Safari?

You look great as always. My issue is that I don’t feel at all chic in jeans, so I never wear them out to dinner or much of anywhere but to our farm. I think this is just my own issue maybe due to body type (notice I am not saying it is my age). I just don’t know.

    1. Hi Susan, thanks! I just viewed in Safari and everything seems to be loading OK. I’ll ask my developer later today, though.

  3. Love the blog! I have a question for you. I have an 11 narrow foot and have a difficult time finding shoes that fit and are comfortable, yet stylish at the same time. Any recommendations? Just bought a pair of Mephistos but they are far from cute, they are practical with casual jeans. Help! Thank you!

    1. Hi Jill, thanks! Cole Haan shoes are often available in Narrow widths and have nice padding in the insole too. Here’s a link for several styles available in 11N. http://bit.ly/1uSEuPa

I’ve also had good luck with Stuart Weitzman shoes. Here’s a link to some styles in 11N, including the “Poco” low heel pump which I have and wear often. http://bit.ly/1u1c8Ry

Eileen Fisher shoes also have some fun, funky styles and from what I’ve found run narrower in the toe box and might be worth a try if those appeal. Thanks for reading!

  4. Love your outfit, simple, clean and sophisticated. Also love the new look of the blog, although it took me awhile to find out where to comment.

  5. Polished casual is always a favorite of mine as well! You my dear are looking fabulous … as does your new beautiful blog design!

Wishing you a wonderful new week!

    xoxo

  6. I love the new design of your blog. I wonder how many of our closets are full of everyday items that hold stories and details of the many ordinary days we have in our life? As I talk about in my new post we usually can remember the big events of our lives and the outfits we wear to them Your post reminds us of the importance of remembering the everyday and how when you combine these items in different ways they become something beyond ordinary. Hope you made some nice memories at your dinner.

  7. Love the starry print of your shirt, your jacket’s folded back sleeves, and the bright punctuation of your bracelets! Stylish and insouciant.

  8. Looking very current and I love it. I really like the look of heels with jeans, but since turning 65, I am uncomfortable adopting the look. Am very sensitive to what is appropriate for someone my age. I would not want to be accused of trying to act or look “too young.” Would love to hear your opinion on this.

    1. Hi, its 2016 and I’ve only just read this. I’m 65 and love this look. I wear it and think its ageless.
Would love to read other opinions…..

  9. Love your new look. If you hadn’t told me I never would have figured out where to comment. I do think it needs to be larger and at the bottom of the post. It’s easier to finish reading and then go on to comment. Looks lovely and fresh as do you.

  10. Love this! Relaxed schwanky.
Your new blog look is fantastic too, like sitting-at-the-window-of-your-George V-Hotel-room-in-Paris-writing-postcards-while-it-rains-outside-romantic look. Now that it’s chilling here, I am much more eagle-eyed about choosing which coat to wear. It can make or break a vibe so easily.

  11. Honestly, Pseu, you get gorgeous -er and gorgeous-et, and your hair. . .words escape.

    You look stunning.

Can’t wait until we meet again (in the spring!).

    xo,
    Tish

  12. Oooh, yes! Like it all a lot. Excellent outfit, especially as you are a star in my corner of the blogoverse! So pretty, your starry blouse and you really matched the delicacy with your bangles. Cool outfit all in all … great jacket, shoes, bag make it all effortlessly fab.

  13. Unfortunately, jeans are one of the few things that do NOT make me feel polished! I’ve just never been a jeans gal, and it’s tough. I’m trying, believe me! I did come across the Loft jeans about a year ago and they are slowly inching their way into my “wardrobe necessaries”. With flats, yes, they actually DO make me feel good; but it’s been a long and rocky road!
