black & leopard

Inspired by Virginie Mouzat, I decided to style this Helmut Lang sweater very simply, and accent with my favorite pair of leopard boots. I purchased it last week from the Net-a-Porter sale. (It’s now sold out there, still available and on sale at Neiman Marcus.) I’d also ordered the Elizabeth and James leopard cardigan which, as I’d feared, pretty much swallowed me whole. They were sold out of the smaller size at the time, but I’m going to continue to stalk it in case it becomes available again. But I do love this HL sweater. It’s soft, light, drapes well with nice movement and swing. Sweet Spot: hit.

I wore this outfit Saturday night to an impromptu evening out. Impromptu, because our sitter showed up unexpectedly (we’d previously thought he was unavailable). We grab our little miracles where we can. 😉 It’s almost impossible to get last-minute weekend reservations at popular restaurants in LA but we often can get a seat at the bar and order from the dinner menu while enjoying a more convivial atmosphere, so that’s what we did.

Earrings: Alexis Bittar | Sweater: Helmut Lang | Tank: Eileen Fisher |
Bracelets: Stella and Dot, Aurelie Bidermann ( and similar) | Jeans: Frame Denim |
Bag: Givenchy | Boots: Cole Haan, several years old (similar)

These boots are showing a bit of wear, but I'm not ready to retire them yet.

  1. I’m with you; stylish black with luxury accessory accents. I’m also throwing things on while running out the door, so I’m usually in black pants, black tops, with one of my sewing “makes” draped on me somehow.

  2. You look great in your sweet spot! As for impromptu? Nothing that requires lipstick, sadly . . . nor even glam earrings or even a wee spot of leopard. . . . (I’ll have to live vicariously for now, so thank you! 😉

  3. I don’t like to go to new restaurants with friends or guests if I’ve never been there before; a dinner at the bar is a good way to see if someplace passes muster before making a commitment to a big-deal evening.

  4. How wonderful – a welcome surprise! The bar-side dining sounds like a relaxed way to spend the evening. It’s a talent to be able to live-on-the fly. Love your outfit. Your hair looks great, swishy shiny.

  5. You really get it together! Perfection! I love the listick in the photos. I wonder how it loks in real life. My husband was thrilled when I toned down the lipstick with a beautiful coral. Fun switching colors.

  6. Oh, good for you! And evening out well earned, I know. I’m content dining in the bar … you often get a less stressed server with fewer tables, and it can be more fun, but there has to be a booth! My legs are too short for most bar stools!
Looking lovely in your snazzy sweater, Madame. Hope you find the other piece you want, and as soon as you want it!
