the gift I’d give…

Dream Kitchen

The topic of this month’s By Invitation Only is “if money were no object, I’d give…”

If money (and space, and time) were no object, I’ve wave a magic wand, and give le monsieur our kitchen renovation, all done (having skipped the painful renovation process) and with plenty of space and storage.

It would include a huge pantry…

and some state-of-the-art wine storage.

But the best part is, we’d be done, all of the headaches and bickering bypassed, and we’d be able to enjoy entertaining in this space over the holidays.

A girl can dream.

  1. You mention bickering and it is usually thought that married couples argue during the process of building or renovation. It certainly can be stressful. In our case (building three houses, a large outbuilding at our farm, and major renovations of several houses,) there was no bickering. Why? Because I was in charge of all of the projects at my husband’s request. I have to admit that there were times I wished he was more engaged with the projects, but other times when it was such a treat to get to make all the decisions myself.

I think the best way to make a project go smoothly is to have most every decision made BEFORE you even start the tearing out. Also, hiring a top notch contractor (and you will pay for that) is invaluable.

  2. Oh boy, does Susan have it right. Our kitchen reno was pretty stressful, but we had a great architect, a decent kitchen designer and an okay contractor (could probably have done better on that score). We certainly didn’t know what we were getting ourselves into, but in the end everything came out alright, and it’s been worth every penny. To Susan’s list I would add being realistic about the cost.

  3. I could definitely have some of that !!!!! Such beautiful kitchenalia …. if only we could click our fingers and it would all be done ….. we can but dream. A great post for our BIO topic this month.
Wishing you the merriest of Christmases filled with love and togetherness. XXXX

  5. Wow. That is my DREAM kitchen! (Then again, something similar in style and smart storage is also my dream closet and my dream office.)

As for bickering during renovations, I went through three (two small, one large) while married. Hmmm. Maybe that’s why my (ex)-Hubby traveled more during those periods of time? (*wink*)

Wishing you a rapid completion and most of all, a wonderful holiday season.

  6. A beautful kitchen, Susan… and done with the wave of a magic wand… that’s the ebst renovation of all.. 🙂 xv

  7. We share similar taste in kitchen design. This is so perfect. I’d give myself this gift, with the well-appointed accompanying rooms to surround it for a gift of a house! *dream big

  8. I have wonderful memories of my grandmother’s walk-in pantry, there was always a cake under a cloche, or a box of home-made biscuits. You are so right to include it as part of your future kitchen
