holiday party attire: cocktails

The second holiday evening event we attended over the weekend was a Swanky Cocktail Party™. I decided to try a “le smoking” inspired outfit instead of a dress and put together the combo above. I felt comfortable and appropriately dressed, and was happy with how it worked out.

Earrings, Ring and Necklace: vintage from Beladora | Jacket: Helmut Lang | Top: Eileen Fisher |
Pants: Vince | Bag: vintage Chanel (similar) | Shoes: Cole Haan

Nail polish: Dior “Nuit 1947”

The party was a blast! The food and drinks were fabulous, but best of all our hosts had invited an eclectic group of intelligent, accomplished and especially congenial folks, and we really enjoyed meeting and conversing with many of them. I also had a chance to see and catch up with some good friends from the bloggy world, which was such a pleasure!

That isn’t white hosiery…that’s my skin! 😉

  1. This is a jacket I need to add to my closet! A similar outfit to what I wore last weekend…you look ready for a perfect party!

  2. I almost wore a duplicate of your outfit, but in LA get so few chances to wear a dress, that I went with that. You looked terrific.

  3. So elegant on you!

Next time, if wearing after the sun sets, may I suggest you add a fine piece at the neck (where the scoopneck reveals skin) or play with the Chanel approach of multiple strands of pearls- and see how you like that? Or one of your beautiful cuffs?

  4. Absolutely perfect. I am going to build myself a le smoking outfit. I have the pearls and will be swapping out the pointy black shoes (my feet will not tolerate pointy) with my leopard print wedge shoes. All I need is the clothing! Thank you for the inspiration!

  5. You look great, very elegant and sophisticated. True confession: I’ve never been to a Swanky Cocktail Party. But if I ever get invited to one, I’ll have the perfect excuse to go shopping.

  6. I love this classy attire and it very much reminds me of a look I showed on the blog in autumn. I do love dresses but this is such a great alternative and your jewellery, handbag and dark nails add the extra glamour.
Glad you had such a good time!!

  7. Looks great but how do you manage to match a jacket and pants that aren’t a set? I always end up looking like I couldn’t find the right pants.
