not what I’d planned
I had planned to have a fresh outfit post up today, but when I went to grab my camera equipment yesterday afternoon, I realized my tripod was irreparably broken. With the windy weather we were having, I didn’t want to chance my camera blowing over, so nixed the photo session and will be hunting down a new tripod today.
Our day yesterday was mostly a quiet one, though jeune homme was a bit restless and a little aggressive by the end of the day. (I could have used one of those tumblers of bourbon pictured above!) I did try out a new recipe for fingerling potatoes that I found on Pinterest (which has IMO become the best place to search for recipes). It was super easy and I was very pleased with how it turned out. I made a smaller batch than the original recipe, and used proportionally less salt and garlic.
Worked very well with the brisket, but on its own is vegan. One of the things I miss is having more time for cooking; I do enjoy it and derive a great deal of satisfaction from the process as well as the results.
Are you shopping the after-Christmas sales today? I’ve been scouting and haven’t found terribly much new, but did see a few things worth mentioning.
I’ve tried on these flats and they’re comfortable as heck. If you’re up to your kneecaps in snow they might not look too appealing at the moment, but come spring…
This is the sweater I’m wearing here. Nordstrom has it in both Misses and Petite sizes, and a bunch of colors besides black. I’ve worn this sweater quite a lot recently, not only with a longer layer underneath, but also over a contrasting tank or tee.
If you like tops with some movement, you’ll love this sweater. It’s available in several Spring-ish colors, and with the lightweight merino wool fabrication is a three-season piece (and nice for travel). I like the more open neckline too.
Nordstrom has quite a few Eileen Fisher items on sale, (many heavily discounted) so if there’s something you’ve had your eye on, it’s worth checking out.
If all goes as planned 😉 will be back tomorrow with that outfit post.
Have you tried any new recipes lately that were successful? Where do go to find new recipes?

I smiled when I saw your topic…nothing is really going as planned right now in our household. I had a post planned for today…just opened it…don’t like it. So I have a lot of work to do. But, like you, our meal yesterday was delicious. I tried a new Chocolate pie recipe from Pioneer Woman and it was amazing! The true review is that it is all gone. The whole family loved it. Back to planning…hope you have a good weekend!
Both those sweaters are colours I adore!
No more snow here; it all melted under heavy rain. I’m happy (bicycle) but skiers are glum. They’ll get their turn again soon.
I can’t imagine the sale which would get me to break my Boxing Day tradition….I stay home with the leftovers and the new books, although I will make one foray outside for my run.
I did try one new recipe, a Christmas version of a butter tart, with fresh and dried cranberries replacing the usual raisins. Went over well at my daughter’s Christmas dinner. Hope you find a good replacement for your tripod–looking forward to your outfit post.
Seems we are all in the same boat! I can’t insert my SD card into my camera any longer, it started snowing (too dark for photos), the house is full of 20-25 yrs olds, I ate too many Christmas cookies and there is no proper planning anyways 😉
Enjoy your bourbon tonight – I think I need a glass of something!!

I tried a new Brussells Sprout recipe. Cut the sprouts in half top with the zest of a lemon, salt, pepper, a splash of olive oil and the juice of the lemon. Roast at 400 degrees until cooked then add a few shavings of Parmesan cheese. Melt for a couple of minutes and serve. It got rave reviews last night.
I am very weary today so it is going to be a quiet one….good luck on your search for a new tripod.
I think that toy rifle was mine. ; ) And don’t forget Lucille’s BFF and lifelong partner in crime “Auntie Peg” on the left. Oh, and those taters look delish. Sorry to hear about your tripod.
I like to try things from Food52. I also take Cooking Light, it’s got lots of good suggestions and is helpful for slinging out weekday meals.
Great old picture!! The hair, the high balls…perfect!
The potatoes look fabulous! I’ll be making them. I try new recipes all the time, any where I can find them.
I have those Eileen Fisher flats and they’re very comfy.
Our Christmas was quiet with several down for the count with a bug and one out of the country.
Nothing went as planned for us either:)
It’s wine time here now. Cheers!
I love those Sixties Christmases. They bring back happy memories, old traditions, fond feelings for all that’s gone before. Your family looks alot like mine! 🙂 Wishing you a very Happy New Year.
