a new favorite lipstick, and a request

my lips but better lipstick
Chantecaille Lip Chic in Amour. |  French Kande necklace.

Thanks so much to those who recommended Chantecaille Lip Chic lipstick for dry lips. I tried it over the weekend, and yes, it’s very, very good. Wonderful colors, stays on and is very moisturizing. I chose two versions of My Lips But Better™ colors: Daphne which is a light, fresh pink, and Amour which just a little deeper and more rosy.

Chantecaille Lip Chic, “Amour”

Lip Chic offers a good selection of colors, from natural to bright. The formula contains collagen which is supposed to smooth and firm lips. I think it does, and keeps my lips looking and feeling good for hours. I will say the colors look lighter online than they are in person, just something to consider.

If you have dry lips, or are just looking for a lovely new shade, this one is worth a try.

Now I’m going to ask for your help again. My old faithful blow dryer bit the dust yesterday morning. I don’t need anything fancy or elaborate, but need adjustable temperature and airflow, and one that will dry hair quickly. Are the “ceramic” and/or “ionic” dryers worth considering? Do you have any recommendations? Merci par avance!

  1. Yes, definitely! I have an ION that I bought at Sally’s years ago and anyone who visits my home and uses it always comments on how much better their hair dries. Since I’ve had it so long, I can’t tell you the exact difference, but I know when I have had to use a hotel drier, my hair does not dry the same. BTW, I didn’t get a chance to comment the other day on your travel piece. I travel a great deal and take as little as possible, but it’s always great to have new ideas. I will be living in Lyon, France this year for three months (husband’s work takes us there) and having done three months in England last year, I realized I took way, way too much. Thanks for showing your pared down wardrobe. I believe you said you are planning some travel to France this year? If you get to Lyon between Feb. 16 and May 15 I’d love to meet you! You can find me at Radicalaging.com Au revoir!

    1. Accidental Icon, Barneys here carries them, as does Neiman Marcus (so assume in NY that Bergdorf’s would). Also some of the larger Sephora’s carry, I’ve been told.

  2. I purchased two T3 Featherweight blowdryers several years ago: a full size one, and a folding travel one. They have both been excellent, and although I cannot say they make my hair smoother due to tourmaline, ions, etc., they certainly dry my shoulder length, very thick hair in just a few minutes. When I use a different dryer, i do notice how much longer it takes me to dry my hair. Highly recommend.
You can check them out online at Follica.com and Sephora.

  3. I have an ionic dryer and it is worth every penny. My hair, which tends to be fine, and can easily get fly-away and frizzy, dries faster, shinier, and straighter with less halo. To me the ionic feature, and a good, functional cold button, that you can leave set to on without having to hold it down with your finger, are important. The drier makes such a difference in my hair that if I can allow the room to travel with it, I do so, as it is so much better than hotel dryers.

  4. Buy a Solano. This is a brand that is used in salons, so you can actually get it repaired if it ever breaks. I find mine to be a little quieter than the retail brands, and it has lasted forever. I haven’t noticed much difference in the ceramic or ionic ones when I’ve used them.

  5. I’m so happy the Lip Chics worked for you! Amour looks gorgeous on you. I have both that one and Daphne–and love them!–but since my coloring is a bit different than yours, they’re rather vivid on me, not MLBB. My lips are almost exactly the color of Bourbon Rose (sometimes you can’t tell I’m wearing lipstick when I wear it, but my lips always feel good!), and I find Tea Rose is a decent MLBB as well. I have waaaay too many lipsticks from that line, but as you’ve discovered, they’re unbeatable in cold weather (and still nice in summer). As for hair dryers, I’m going to eavesdrop on everyone’s comments since I’m in the market for a new one, too. Hope you find the perfect one!

  6. I have a T3 hairdryer, which seems to be kind of a cult favorite. It was expensive but it has lasted a lot longer than the dryers I have bought from the drugstore or Target. Since I travel a lot and use many kinds of dryers in hotel rooms, I can tell you the differences I observe. The T3 dries my hair a bit more slowly, but my hair is less frizzy/flyaway when it’s dry compared to using hotel room hair dryers (usually Conair.)

  7. I’m happy with the Conair Infiniti Pro from Costco. I have fine, straight hair, and this seems to do a great job without many fly-aways. Don’t remember for sure but I think it’s ionic. Set on medium airflow, it dries fast while still allowing me to style as I go.

  8. Usually I’m just a lurker – but I have OPINIONS about blow dryers. I have fine, flat, and now pretty thin hair, and I am against Ion dryers because I want the extra bounce a non-ionic dryer gives. That being said, you can’t just go buy a dryer from the drugstore because you really will have fly-away hair. I have a Solano – (others have mentioned this brand) and while it’s pretty expensive for a dryer (expensive enough that I had to hide the cost from the husband) – it has lasted me at least 5 years – something no drugstore dryer has ever been able to do. I also invested in an excellent brush – again much too expensive and worth every penny – which prevents the fly-aways from happing. Also a BIG fan of Perfect Hair Day from Living Proof. It does it all – styles, thickens and holds the shape I blow my hair dry in for two days. THE MOST AMAZING PRODUCT EVER. There. I’m all finished ranting about dryers and I will go back to silent lurking…

  9. This is off topic but sort of related: may I just say, I love your hair, the cut and oh the colour! It suits you so well. I have very similar hair type and style but next time I am going to the hairdressers I am taking a photo of you to show the colour I want! I want glamorous blonde like you!! Last time the colourist gave me subtle and mousey, with a green tinge. Humph!

  10. You can see how moisturizing it is on you and what a beautiful colour! (Like the look of a slight shine, like yours, on a woman, versus mattes, which to me rarely look comfortable, and I even have a hard time finding them pretty.)

  11. I have worn Chantecaille foundation for many years, but the last lipstick I tried several years ago produced an unexpected allergic reaction. These are new and the colors seem versatile so I will give them a try.

I purchased the same hair dryer my hair stylist uses on me and absolutely love it–a Rusk Speedfreak, it is ionic and my hair dries quickly, without damage, and is shiny–results I could not produce with other hair dryers.

Enjoy the blog, by the way!

  12. I bought this from Amazon. Very good and inexpensive–$18.75

Revlon RV544PKF 1875W Tourmaline Ionic Ceramic Dryer

  13. Sounds like the perfect lipstick!! I’ll have a look. I love the color you have on. I think the ceramic hair dryers are worth it. They can be found at all prices. I bought one last year for over $200 which broke almost immediately. Then I bought one at Target and it’s still going strong.

    1. Hi Tami, I guess that’s a question that everyone will have to answer for themselves. I don’t wear a lot of other makeup, and have always loved wearing lipstick. To find one that hits the trifecta of good color, longevity and conditioning…to me, yes worth it.

  14. I have very thin and fine hair–I have found the ceramic dryers damaging for my type of hair. My old Vidal Sassoon bit the dust a couple of years ago and I have been searching for one similar ever since. Amazing how attached we get to a beauty tool. I did try an ionic dryer and did not notice that much difference perhaps slightly more volume for the first hour. My Allergy Doctor recommends against using ionic products if you have any respiratory issues. If you find a dryer with a low speed–one that does not produce the air of a jet engine–could you please share it with us. Make it a great day!

    1. I have a Conair dryer from Target. It cost less than $20, and is probably about 5 years old. It has three speeds and three heats plus a cold button so you can get the combo you want pretty easily. It is ionic which I believe helps with the static/ flyaway situation that those of us with fine hair experience in the cold dry winters of MN.

  15. Your lippy looks great with your hair colour…I cannot help you with the blow dryer…I use one but mine is ancient and probably will give up soon. I hope someone will advise us both!
I am a fan of the Fresh lip products from Sephora.

  16. I second the Revlon hair dryer mentioned above. Inexpensive, drys quickly (I also have thin, fine hair) and lasts about 5 years. It meets all the requirements you mentioned.

  17. Coming late to this thread (and catching up on this newly discovered blog): I have a question for you. I’m similar in height and figure type, but rather older, and I haven’t worn any make-up since my twenties, as I am fortunate to have (genetically) good skin. But looking at how lipstick looks on you, I’m beginning to think a touch of colour on my lips would be good. But my lips are very thin (possibly from long years of repressing my feelings in a previous unhappy relationship). So I’m concerned that colour would be counter-productive and just draw attention to this thin tight-lipped line that is my mouth. Any suggestions or advice would be welcome.

    1. Cla(i)re, I’m going to ask my friend Brian (a professional makeup artist) if he has any advice or tips. Stay tuned!

  18. Delighted that you are happy with the Chantecaille lip chic and that colour looks beautiful on you. Unfortunately, cannot help you with the blowdryer, I bought mine from my hairdresser over ten years ago, it is professional dryer and it does not look like giving up the ghost anytime soon! However, if you are looking for a new cream blush, I recommend ‘shy’ in the Chantecaille range which pops into the pebble compact!! Clarins and Chanel are my other favourites. Just in case you were wondering 😉

  19. Hmmm…I do believe I need to give this lipstick a try, thanks for the tip. As for the “ceramic” and “ionic? dryers, to be honest, I have never noticed a difference on my hair. My hair is big and wavy regardless of ceramics or ions, as it turns out.

  20. I just received my Chantecaille lipstick. So far I really love it. My lips are extremely dry and this feels creamy and last for a couple of hours. The color I purchased is a perfect match to my lips but sadly now I will be forced to continue in this $35 habit and try a few darker colors. Oye!
Thank you for a great recommendation.
