casual vendredi: the mix
As a post-script to Wednesday’s ruminations, here’s how I recently added some softness and movement to an otherwise structured outfit. This sheer tunic has turned out to be such a fabulous Third Piece to jazz up solid basics. It’s from last year’s Eileen Fisher collection and no longer available but I’ve linked to some similar options below. You can’t see here, but I’ve layered it over a 3/4 sleeve black tee (check out the ones from Adea, very nice and great travel companions), so I can take off the jacket and still have some coverage.
The jacket is one of the new Spring pieces from Eileen Fisher, here. It’s cut beautifully (nips in nicely at the waist), and looks great over longer layers. I love the shape and fit. The jeans are NYDJ “Clarissa” ankle jeans. These are available in a several colors/washes.
The shoes are also from last year, but here’s a very similar pair that will be great for Spring/Summer wear (available in both black and tan suede).
Do you like to mix soft and structured pieces in an outfit?

I will have to try on a look like this to see if it flatters curves like mine…but I really like it on you. The shoes are fun as well!
I just love the feminine touch this sheer tunic adds to a pair of basic jeans. Well done!
Very flowy and feminine, yet perfect for the office. And love the new shoes! xo
That top is very pretty. It really softens the look!
The layering in this look is lovely. I love the length and cut of the jacket and the way the tunic is longer in the back. It is flattering and wistful. Love it.

This is a great ensemble. I am inspired to see what I have in my closet that would be a similar combination of flow and structure.
I love this look Susan. I have a floaty blouse that’s plaid, and I recently wore it in a similar style. I noticed younger women complementing me! That made me feel great. Your look is great for work, cool, but not conservative.
Wow, loving the long flowy tunic under the shorter structured blazer. Very modern and chic! I really need to try some NYDJ because I keep hearing rave reviews of them. Thanks SO much for linking up with FUN FASHION FRIDAY! Would love to see you back next week (& every week)!

The bracelet looks great with the sleeve length on the jacket. Tres belle!

Pointy shoes make you look thinner and your shoes for some reason also seem a bit sexy, without being obvious. Good call.
I still love that beautiful top.
You really get it together with style for the “real” woman! Bravo to you.
The chiffon top is lovely.
Great layering! I love the loose sheer top with the structure blazer.

I love the look, the blouse is lovely! I love the sheerness and how it flows and I think it is quite creative to add a different length by adding yourlovely structured black jacket. I do like to add structure to soft looks at times. Pretty!
