Yes, I did wear this outfit earlier in the week, even though it’s been a bit warm and humid (for L.A.). I needed the linen sweater as I had to sit in on several meetings in a very chilly conference room. After the first day when my toes almost suffered frostbite, I switched to these closed toe ankle boots.
I’ve worn this Eileen Fisher buffalo check tunic a couple of times now, and I really like both the fabric and fit. It’s lightweight and cut a bit slimmer and closer to the body than a lot of the tunics from recent collections, so it layers very well. The checks are on-trend for fall, but I can envision this as a piece that will span seasons.
The bracelet is from French Kande’s new “Concorde” collection. Those cracked agate beads are just gorgeous!! The bag is from Brahmin, purchased during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I have friends who are really into this brand, and now I can see why. It combines light weight and functionality with a really standout look, and they are a good value for the price.
I’m wearing the Make Up For Ever “N47” lipstick, which I’ve worn daily since purchasing. LOVE this color!
How do you handle dressing when exterior and interior temperatures diverge?

That is a good length for the sweater, much easier to wear than the really long sweaters.

Oh, I think the cropped pants cut you in an unflattering way. But I think cropped pants do that to most women.

I wonder if the proportions would look different if worn with flat shoes? I love the outfit, but wonder if the ankle boots worn with cropped trousers throw it out of balance? I think it would have been perfect had the trousers been longer.
Hi Susan, my thinking is that the look is more balanced with an open toed shoe or boot, but in this case necessity (freezing feet) made these boots the best option. 🙂

Very chic outfit! My eye has finally adjusted to the look of ankle pants. In fact, I own the same Eileen Fisher pants in both black and white. I even like the shoes… although I can’t quite believe I’m saying this.
But I do have a big question or concern, something that is probably not an issue for you in southern California. Can you wear ankle pants with socks (fairly heavy socks) in winter? Here in New York it can get very cold in the winter. No matter how devoted someone is to looking trendy or fashionable, wearing ankle pants with exposed skin is simply not going to happen, at least not after the first frostbite. I’ve looked at fall and winter fashions in many places and there aren’t many full length pants available. How are we supposed to keep warm? Thanks for any light you can shed on this chilling issue.
Hi Kathy, thanks and no I probably would not wear ankle pants with socks. To me the bit of skin showing adds structure to the outfit. The one option might be wearing over a pair of mid-calf boots that are cut to fit slim on the leg.
You always layer pieces beautifully. I’m going to buy that EF buffalo tunic to wear under one of my long sleeve sweaters just like you have shown–perfect for Arizona temps.

I’m fairly new here, so I’m sorry if I missed something about this….are you a rep for Eileen Fischer? Most of the clothing you mention is from that company.. I find it’s such an expensive line for what it is,and a wardrobe consisting of so much of it must cost a fortune over time! I’m so discouraged that this company is out of reach for me, even on sale. 🙁
I simply take my styling cues from the way the models are photographed wearing the clothing. I assume that the mfg/retailer will use the clothing in the best way. If they show a tunic with full length skinny pants…then that’s how I’ll wear it too. That being said…the shorter pants, bare skin, and then ankle boots make you look like a munchkin. Don’t be offended…I am short , and I must constantly fight the munchkin look. Go for the long sleek line on the legs. Sometimes, experimentation does us shorter women no favors.
Hi Gloria, no I don’t work for them. I like the quality and fit of the clothing, and because most of the pieces are simple and wear well, I’ve been able to build up a wardrobe over the last few years (many of the pieces I’ve shown are “perennials” and in the collection season after season). There are few lines that either offer a Petite line or work for my short frame, but I also own and have featured items from J.Crew, NYDJ, DKNY, and Covered Perfectly.
To add my two cents about Eileen Fisher: I have found that the investment is worth it. I have EF sweaters that look terrific 12 years later. Of course, you have to want to wear something for 12 years and counting! If you know your size, you can find a lot of EF clothes on ebay.
The outfit is lovely, the bracelet a big want in my book.. But… The bag!! I must have that bag. I had a similar one by Muxart, a Spanish brand, for years and loved it to pieces. Literally. It fell apart. Now I have a Longchamps. Pretty but so uninteresting. Yours is so much better.

I really love your posts and outfits. I have been inspired. Mostly your outfits are a hit but I thought this was a miss. I don’t think long over long is flattering on a petite person. Sometimes, things only good look on the tall model types. Most of your readers seem to like the look, so I’m clearly in the minority here. Keep posting!
