on my radar: printed scarves from Bindya

printed scarf

I love the way a printed scarf adds such visual punch to an outfit. While I’ve had a few lighter weight silk printed scarves in rotation the last few months, almost all of my cooler weather scarf options are solid colors. I’ve been eyeing the Bindya New York scarves at Halsbrook for a while now, and when the folks at Halsbook asked if I’d like to review one, I jumped at the opportunity.

The designer, Bindya Lulla has been making scarves and pashminas for over 10 years and gets inspiration from her trips to India and Paris. The prints are lively, and incorporate both vivid and softer colors in interesting pattern mixes.

The scarf I selected is the “Marie” in teal and cream paisley. I’ve always loved paisley prints, and the colors in this one are so gorgeous, and work beautifully in my wardrobe. The silk/cashmere fabric is very lightweight and soft, and large enough to work as a wrap too.

I like that little touch of green on the border, which you can emphasize or not depending on how you arrange the scarf.

Look at this stunning print!! I can hardly wait for the weather to cool off enough to wear this again. Prints like this one are also a great way to tie together other colors within an outfit. (I included a couple of Bindya scarves in my most recent travel wardrobe set.)

Scarf was provided by Halsbook for review. If you haven’t perused their online boutique before, you really should have a look. They have curated a collection of elegant basics as well as unique designs and accessories I haven’t seen anywhere else, and all of it eminently wearable.

  1. Susan, I love this scarf on you! And yes, I do like printed scarves and have several of them. Sometimes I am challenged by a scarf this size and think it is just too much fabric. But–you made it work and I should be able to do the same. The one you are modeling is such a great color for you.

  2. Lovely. I remember my first run in with pashminas/scarves when I went on a solo trip to Paris while in college. I love scarves but unfortunately they are a bit superfluous in South Florida.

  3. Seems I can never find the right weight of scarf fabric, but these look perfect. Your photos of that scarf are even better than the ones on Halsbook’s website. I actually glossed right over it, then thought “where’s the one in Susan’s photos?” So now I have an even harder decision to make–which gorgeous one to choose?

  4. I would wear that as a shawl, or as a scarf with a coat in the winter, but I think it is overwhelming as a part of an outfit…but I would definitely wear it!

  5. That’s a beautiful scarf! Love the colors. Halsbrook has some lovely pieces–usually too expensive for me but I did give them a look just a couple of days ago and found that there were many items that I might choose! I first started following Halbrook a few years ago when they were featured in the NYT.

  6. Those colours are great on you and I’m always a sucker for a bit of paisley. At the moment, I need another one or two scarves in neutral solids, having collected perhaps a few too many printed ones….cashmere-silk is a nice blend especially for your climate.

  7. Yes, I agree, this scarf looks great on you! I especially love that it’s a silk/cashmere blend. Dreamy. Of course you’d want to wrap it all over yourself, so soft, so pretty. It’s light enough to handle your mild winters but could be dozy enough for somewhere colder too.

  8. The scarf is beautiful. I wear scarves more when they blend in with what I’m wearing, not as a “pop”. I hope we need them this Fall/Winter…..

  9. Hardly a day goes by that I don’t wear a scarf of some kind (once the weather cools down…) And, I’m really looking forward to seeing new ideas in Paris in November! I’ve become so addicted that I almost don’t feel dressed without some kind of scarf!

  10. Beautiful, scarves are always a staple for us in the UK – often during each of the 4 seasons! Like you I find a gorgeous patterned scarf really versatile, I try to match just one colour with the solid colour of my main outfit and accessorise with the same picked-out colour for my jewellery. This one is lovely on you!

  11. Love everything on the Halsbrook site, but the prices make it inaccessible for me. Any suggestions for similar styles in a more affordable range?

  12. You absolutely sparkle in those colors. Don’t know how to describe it, exactly, but there’s an effervescent “lift” to your persona whenever you wear such flattering tints…

I do like scarves, and paisleys especially. Anything dreamy and ethereal and watercolor-ey seems to work. Also like Hermes- inspired “chain” and equestrian designs.

  13. I just returned from 3 days in Paris for work. The weather was beautiful, and EVERYONE, and I mean everyone, had a scarf around her (and his) neck. The scarves are light, worn in a loose knot or wound around the neck, and patterned, and seriously, there is hardly a woman without one. Many of the men are wearing them too. Très elegante.

    1. Elle, that’s great to hear. The last couple of years we’ve visited during warmer months, and didn’t see as many scarves.
