the little things: a new beauty gadget

mascara de-clumping brush

Some big and highly anticipated life changes in the works chez nous have been demanding all of my attention this week, so apologies for the irregular postings. It’s all good, just a lot of moving parts that have to come together very quickly. I hope to be back to a more regular schedule next week.

I’ve been meaning to share this little goody with you, though. It’s been reported that Audrey Hepburn’s makeup artist, Alberto de Rossi, after applying mascara would separate and de-clump her lashes with a safety-pin. I’ve found a much better solution, this Lash-Mascara brush which Brian used when we did my makeup session for photos a few months ago. After applying mascara, brush through lashes with this soft brush to separate and remove clumps. I think it works better than a spoolie, and doesn’t keep getting lost in my makeup drawer like the spoolies seem to. You can also use it to apply mascara, though haven’t tried that yet.

  1. Great to know about this kind of brush. I was all set to buy it from your link, but $8.50 for shipping one little brush? No way.

  2. I know I am in the minority, but I am a lover of CAKE mascara. As a teen I discovered Maybelline’s version, then I graduated on to Chanel’s very elegant one. Now they are both discontinued, so I have to buy European or theatrical brands through the internet. For some reason I have much better luck as far as smooth application and no clumping. More control….And it in NOT applied with a spoolie, rather a teeny version of a narrow toothbrush. It also is easier to remove at night, as it is mixed with water when you apply it. It does not run during the day, either, unless you are caught in a downpour, in which case I have my umbrella.

    1. Linda, I always liked the cake mascaras, too. I haven’t used them lately, but did recently put one on my “to order” list at Amazon.
