All skate! The best wardrobe basics from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale report ankle boots

Now that everyone has access to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, I thought I’d report back on a few items I’ve checked out in person. As of last night when I was putting this post together, all of these were still available, though some sizes and colors may be limited. Remember that a lot of people shop with a wide net initially, and so if something you like isn’t available now, keep checking back as returns do happen.

Shoes/Boots

I’ve always found this sale to have a great selection of boots, and several have caught my eye this year. Shown above, clockwise from top left:

  • Aquatalia. This bootie in weatherproof suede is really nice looking, and available in 3 colors. It does run 1/2 size smaller than most Aquatalia shoes, so be aware if you’re ordering online. Otherwise it’s a comfortable boot. The “chestnut” color is more chocolate and less reddish than it appears online, IMO.
  • Franco Sarto. I didn’t have a chance to try this one on, but it’s really cute, and a great price.
  • Pikolinos. Because this boot is water-resistant, I was surprised at how light and soft the leather was. Heel isn’t too high, and I love the tassel. It’s available in 4 colors. It runs a size small.
  • AGL. I love the sleek look of this boot, and the grey color (also available in black). Per the description it runs 1/2 size small. I usually take a 7 or 7.5, and the 7.5 was a good fit.
Cole Haan Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

I’d somehow missed this cute leopard pump until I saw it on the sale table. It’s sold out in all but a couple of sizes, but again, may become more available as people make returns. If you like the shape but aren’t into leopard, here’s the same style in black, metallic and snakeprint.

Clothing

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Halogen

Quite frankly, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and heft of the merino wool fabric on this Halogen cardigan. I’ve purchased one for myself as it should be an excellent piece for travel. It’s available in several colors and patterns, as well as in Plus.

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale NYDJ

The fabric on these NYDJ “Ami” jeans is really soft, and the brandy color is a great goes-with-everything option for fall. For a similar color and a slightly more relaxed fit, try these from rag & bone/JEAN.

Bags

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Vince Camuto
Nordstrom Anniversary Sale All Saints

This Vince Camuto leopard bag is super cute, has interior organization and an outside zippered pocket on the back. Win-win-win!

The color on this All Saints tote is rich and on-trend for fall. But there are brains here as well as beauty: interior organization and the outside pocket snaps shut.

I have a few items on order that weren’t available in my local stores, so will report back once I have those in hand. Please check out my SHOP page for links to all of my picks from the sale, and do check back as I’ll continue to update over the next few days.

  1. It must be so much fun to go to these sales! Bangor, Maine doesn’t offer anything like that. Thanks for sharing so I can shop chic vicariously.

  2. Hi Susan, just moved to Washington DC from Sydney and picked up your blog from Amid Privilege. Had to wait until the sale went post Nordstrom cardholders as impossible to get a credit card without US credit rating and have to wait one year – already ranted about this on AM. I have purchased from Nordstrom in Aus and like their sales though since the fall in the Aussie dollar I have tended to shop on British sites. However managed to get nearly everything on my Nordstrom Wishlist which I started when I saw your previous post. Mostly Christmas presents for my children who will visit for Christmas. I bought my daughter the Corso over the knee boots in grey and some make up. I think I just snagged one of the last Foreo Luna minis for $74 also for her. I bought myself the large one as it is supposed to be “anti aging”. Since arriving here I have only bought myself one item. A bag from H&M – a suede gucci inspired tote that I saw on a blog which was labelled as premium. It was US$130, not expensive, however the bag’s stitching commenced to unravel within two weeks. I paid cash and cannot find the docket. After summer I will throw the bag away and have vowed never to step foot in H&M again. I love the All Saints bag and have two of their biker jackets. It looks like you had a marvellous trip to France and I look forward to reading your posts.

  3. I just can’t buy shoes or pants without trying them on. And I can’t get into the mentality of ordering six different models/sizes and then sending back five.

  4. That Halogen merino cardigan is indeed a winner, great weight to the yarn and excellent ‘spring’ to the knit! I got one of the long versions , a duster vest , in petite for my daughter who is 26. Being short, most dusters have a droopy sad look on her so it was great to see it offered in petite sizes! The sale has excellent options for replenishing the underthings ttoo. Pantyhose, shapewear and bras abound! I took serious advantage of the sales on those. Hanky panky brand on sale? Yes Please!!

  5. I picked up one of the expandable Longchamp bags….just used my other one to bring back souvenirs from a trip to Europe, but felt I might need a bigger one in the future! Also got a nice pair of black stretch wool Layafette 148 pants, and a black Eileen Fisher silk jersey tee, because you can’t have enough of those

And my daughter ordered a pair of black suede Sam Edelman pumps, since she wears size 11 and that is super hard to find…..

  6. Those cute leopard/cheetah Cole Haan pointed flats will definitely see returns. I got them in 8.5, my size, and they are extremely narrow in the toe box bc of how pointy they are. I actually have narrow feet, but these do not work for me.

  7. I’ve been wishing I could find some snakeskin-patterned ankle boots, but no luck so far – I did find one style, but they only had smaller sizes left. I’m starting to get tired of leopard prints, I want reptile!

  8. The sale is fab, but full of clothes I won’t want to wear for about four more months. I know, I should plan ahead! Love, love the leopard flats. xox

  9. Sometimes things just work out in weird ways. I wanted the Leather Longchamp bag in the tan color. It was on sale for the price of $354, which is great since I’ve spent over $500.00 for the leather bags. Anyway, I don’t know whether or not it was an error but I ended up getting the tan Longchamp for $185. I. Am. So. Happy. That was the online price earlier today!
