Weekend Update

Monet water lilies garden in Giverny

Let’s start with something calm and pretty, shall we? Taking a deep breath….

Well, the last few days didn’t go quite as planned here on the blog. I spent the majority of the week “under the hood,” so to speak, dealing with web hosting issues. Beginning last Sunday, I was having trouble uploading new images. After a couple of calls to my web hosting service (the first one being rather dismissive…”it’s a WordPress problem”) it was suggested that I migrate to a more updated and faster platform. “It’s really simple!” Ha.

The process itself was simple, but almost ten years’ worth of blog data proved too much for the automated system. After a few days of back-and-forth, the web hosting company agreed to give it some “special handling” and finally last night after a few hours of testing to be sure all of my data were there and everything was working correctly, I was able to throw the switch and move to the new server. Whew! (And during this last step, had a delightful conversation with the support person about our shared love of Eileen Fisher.)

The only downside is that comments added yesterday after around 6am PT were lost, and for that I apologize. If you’d commented yesterday and would like to re-add your comments, please do.

Because of all this, I’ve barely had time to think about what I’m packing for my trip to New York next week, but that’s the next order of business. From the forecasts I’m seeing, it looks as though it will still be pretty warm.

Bon weekend!

  1. I wondered if something was up — one day I got a very bare-bones version of your site, plus the rhythm of your postings was different (you generally post very early in the morning but last week a post was added mid-afternoon, at least in my system). That must have been pretty exactly what you did not need in this fairly brief time you’ve had between trips, and I hope all goes smoothly for you on your New York trip. xo

  2. Ah, technology! As you think about packing for your trip to NYC, yes, it is still pretty hot here. Also, think twice about wearing sandals as it has not rained much here and the sidewalks are filthy.

  3. I wondered why such an interesting post had so few comments. Technology can drive you crazy! Yes, it’s still very warm here in NYC. Hope you have a wonderful trip.

  4. Enjoying your blog so much. Only 19 days to go before myself and a friend travel to Italy, France, Spain and Greece for a month to celebrate our 70th birthdays and 40 years of friendship. Thanks to you we now have an idea of what to pack and wear. Just emerging from a cool winter on north coast of NSW Australia, it will be lovely to feel the warm sunshine again and long autumn evenings in Europe. Hope you have a lovely time in New York.

  5. Glad you conquered the technological demons. I agree with the others to wear black in NYC. Also, pare down–New Yorkers are dismissive of anything that smacks of trying too hard. Simplicity is best.

  6. Ditto with the above. In Upstate NY, we are looking at warm temps for the week with a cool down toward the weekend (66), then back up. So layering is the key. And I’m thrilled that the blog is back to normal. I thought you had opted for a new format this week, and it was going to take a bit to get accustomed to it.

  7. I feel you WP pain. I’ve been having issues with people being unable to subscribe via email and the WP Powers that be are rather dismissive. But–I’m glad the glitches are ironed out for you.
NYC is presently hot as balls. One of my sons is coming back to visit us next weekend to escape the heat a bit and we’ll hit the shore. I would wear a white shirt with black bottoms just to feel a bit cooler on tip. And, as always, just carry and umbrella and have a blast in my hometown!!!

  8. Love your beautiful photo of Monet’s lily pond. We’ve been there only once and look forward to returning — perhaps on a Seine river cruise. We also love Paris. Time to go back!
