Lounge With A View…

Tokyo nighttime view

I’m showing you the view from the hotel lounge where we enjoyed a refreshing cranberry juice while we checked in. Yes, our room has a view, but when we got up this morning, it looked like this:

foggy outside

Yes, we are completely socked in! Hopefully it will clear at some point, and I’ll be able to show you our actual view.

But I can at least share the first two outfits from my travel wardrobe

airport style

Here’s what I wore in transit. Our flight was about 12 hours gate-to-gate, but it was a smooth and comfortable one. Didn’t sleep much on the flight, though. The 90 minute shuttle bus ride from the airport to the hotel felt longer than the flight!

And here’s what I’m wearing today. We’re on our way out the door to do some exploring, and then have a walking tour this afternoon. Hoping to have some good sushi tonight!

  1. Sue, I love your outfits. You just get better and better! Thanks for the inspiration. Where can I get that phone case?

    1. Hi Valerie, no, it’s actually right before the 12-hour flight. 😉 The clothes and shoes probably held up better than I did!

  2. Love the polka dots with the snake skin boots. And the red purse is the perfect final touch. Hope the fog clears for you. “Socked in” is my least favourite phrase…ever! I usually hear it on canoe trips when Hubby pokes his head out of the tent and says in an annoyingly cheerful tone, “Looks like we’re socked in, Suz.” And I think…”Please, please just let me roll up in my sleeping bag and forget this whole darned camping thing.” Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip… fog free!

  3. This is so not fair, you MUST share with us how on earth you look so bright eyed and pretty after a killer travel day!! Have fun!!

    1. Meg, thanks but I’m sure I didn’t look so “bright” toward the end of the travel day. We were up for about 24 hours straight and I was pretty glassy-eyed by the time we arrived at the hotel.

    1. Thanks! The first photo was just before the flight. I’m sure I looked a bit bleary by the time we reached our hotel! 😉

  4. Love your blog; I lead a very casual lifestyle, yet I like to look polished & pulled together (no pastel sweatsuits for this sixty-something – no way!). Thank you for your efforts and ongoing inspiration! I lived in Tokyo for 30 years many moons ago. Be sure to look to the right before crossing the street and enjoy your time there!

  5. I am loving your Japan wardrobe as we will be going to Japan at about the same time next year. I’ll be interested to know how the boots go in the warm weather, as I find boots so versatile when travelling.

    1. Hi Lyn, thank you. I wore the boots around yesterday (with shoe liners) and was perfectly comfortable. I may switch out to my sandals today just to mix things up.

  6. Looking fabulous, Pseu. Hoping that you have an exciting and fun adventure. My son went to Tokyo when he was in college to meet the parents of his then girlfriend. At 6′ 1″, he said he felt like Bill Murray in” Lost in Translation.” He told us a funny story about meeting her family. They kept presenting food to him which he felt obliged to eat. He was full, but did not want to insult them. They were amazed at how much the American could consume and kept the food coming so as not to insult him. Not sure how they came to a mutual conclusion.

  7. Wow. I’m really shocked at that morning view. I had no idea that it was THAT smoggy in Japan. You learn something new every day! Have fun exploring. And report about the sushi. I wonder if the sushi in Japan is much better than here!!!

    1. Not smog, clouds and fog. It’s been quite damp and humid. We’re scheduled for a sushi lunch today that should be very good, will report back!

  8. oh, so looking forward to sharing this trip with you. You look delightful, polka dots and python! Please take photos of your meals. Tell us how you like the sushi in Japan as opposed to Gelson’s take-out. 🙂
