One reason to love chilly weather

Maybe I’m a bit biased because I love to layer, but I think outerwear is a great opportunity to add personality and interest to our outfits. Teddy coats are an outerwear trend that has shown some staying power the last few seasons. They can provide warmth while adding fun texture, and are available in a range of styles and colors.

A warm & lightweight teddy coat

It was during a visit to Paris in December of 2018 that teddy coats first hit my style radar. And every year since I’ve been keeping my eyes open for one that suits my style and our climate.

While we don’t have to deal with ice or snow or sub-freezing temperatures, even Southern California can be quite chilly this time of year. I get cold easily and have a hard time warming up again, so a warm outer layer is a must for me. But I don’t want anything too heavy or bulky. This short double-breasted teddy coat is warm but soft and surprisingly light. I’m wearing size Small, and happily, the sleeves aren’t too long.

I’ve styled the teddy coat with a colorful Fair Isle sweater which is also warm and incredibly soft! I’m wearing size small. While there are both warm and cool colors in the pattern, I think Springs & Autumns could wear it (as the body of the sweater is warm-toned).

Here are a few more Fair Isle style sweaters…

Nordstrom has a great selection of teddy coats and jackets. Many items are still available for delivery by Christmas, or you can order online and pick up at your local Nordstrom store, often the same day.
