Fresh picks: 12 stylish and practical spring jackets

Happy Monday! I’ve been seeing a lot of really good spring jackets showing up in the last few weeks, in a variety of styles and shapes. Today I’m sharing a few that caught my eye.

Jackets are an essential part of my wardrobe for most of the year. I love how they smarten up my casual outfits, and so often are the “third piece” that completes a look. And as someone who gets chilled easily, I count on jackets to keep me comfortable in a range of temperatures.

Stylish spring jackets

There’s a little something for everyone this season, whether you prefer longer or shorter, oversized or more fitted styles. Here’s a cross-section of spring jacket styles that are both good-looking and easy to wear…

Faux leather

Susan B. wears a balloon sleeve faux leather jacket, green top, barrel leg jeans and point-toe ballet flats.

My sizes: jacket 0P (4/6P), top S, jeans 1(8)
(Yes, that’s Bella’s tail in the background.)

I’ll admit, I haven’t paid much attention to Chico’s for the last few seasons, but saw this faux leather jacket in one of their ads and had to give it a try. I quite like it! It’s available in regular sizes 00(0/2) to 4(20/22) and in Petites. I’m wearing Petite 0(4/6). And according to the care tag, it’s machine washable!

(I’m also eyeing this faux leather “shacket”…)

Classic with cool…a longer blazer style in black faux leather. Sizes 2-14.

Tweed

Tweed that’s more fun than fussy. While greens can be hard to accurately gauge online, I’ve seen this jacket in person and it’s definitely cool. The buttons are silver too! I think both Winters and Summers could wear it. Sizes in Regular 00(0/2) to 4(20/22) and in Petites.

Here’s an easy, throw-on-and-go tweed blazer with feminine ruched sleeves. Sizes X-Small to X-Large, also in pretty in pink.

Springs, this one’s for you! This bright and pretty tweed jacket is available in Misses size XS-4X, and in Petite and Tall sizes.

Polished

If you have a wedding or other dressy event on your spring calendar, here’s a pretty topper for arm coverage, or just an extra layer between you and the air-conditioning. In Plus, similar in Misses. This “Briar” color best on Autumns & Springs.

Here’s a pretty & polished take on a denim jacket. In regular sizes to 4X, also in Petite and Tall lengths. I haven’t seen this one in person, but on my monitor looks like it could work for some Summers or soft Autumns.

This pretty blazer can dress up or down. It has a relaxed but not oversized fit, and a lovely soft fabric with a nice drape. It’s marked way down too, for a limited time! In Classic sizes 00-24, also in Petite and Tall. Pink and Navy options too.

Casual

If I were going to invest in a denim jacket this spring, I’d go for this one. The denim is currently marked down, sizes XXS-L. (I have the shorter cropped version of this jacket in fleece, and wear it All The Time.)

If your style leans a little more sporty, this longline openwork knit jacket is worth a look. In washable cotton, it has a two-way zipper. Sizes X-small to X-large.

Chore jackets have become something of a style perennial. This one stays pretty true to its origins. Sizes XS-XL.

And finally, something a little different. I usually steer clear of most print jackets, but this one isn’t too “shouty,” and reminds me a bit of Ralph Lauren. 100% cotton, sizes X-Small to X-Large.

What style of jacket do you wear most often in spring?

  1. Good morning,
Not my usual thing, but I kind of like that Southwest Chic jacket. It seems “Autumn-ish” in coloring to me. Would you agree ?

Another question, off topic if I may….I love the flooring in the picture ( with Bella’s tail). Is that a real hardwood floor or an engineered type ? Can you disclose the style and color ?
I, too, am looking to do some updating and love the color and pattern of that floor. If you have hardwood in your kitchen, do you like it ?
    Thanks Susan

    1. Hi Nancy, thanks! Yes, I think the Southwest jacket is good for Autumns. As to the flooring, it’s a wood veneer over a manufactured wood base. We had it installed in most of the house over a decade ago (similar look in kitchen 6 years ago), and I’m afraid I don’t know the manufacturer. It works well in our kitchen, though you’ll want to put non-scratch gliders on your chairs to preserve the finish.

    2. I love that jacket, also. Chiming in to say, I have hardwood in my kitchen and can’t imagine life without it. It’s cool in the summer, warm in the winter, soft on my feet, and very forgiving overall. Scratches or other dings just add to its patina.

  2. I love your Chico’s jacket! You look so chic in it. Is it a shade of Mushroom (summer) on the HOC chart? It just seems more cool on my monitor.

    1. Hi Bevie, thanks so much! It’s in between Summer Mushroom and Autumn/Spring beige. I think you could absolutely wear it with Summer colors, though be aware the hardware is gold.

  3. Some of these jackets are just a little too dressy for my lifestyle. I do have a navy chore coat that I wear in the Spring and love it. Recently, I was gifted a wonderful indigo denim jacket from Roark. It’s a cross between a chore jacket and a shirt. I plan on wearing it when I travel to Japan this spring.

  4. Susan, if you end up purchasing the Chicos “Shacket” would you kindly post a picture of yourself wearing it. Prior to this post of yours I had been eyeing the vegan almond colour “shacket”. As I live in Canada shopping from the USA sites can be pricey and returns are not always straight forward. It is so helpful when you comment on your purchases as it gives your audience some real life guidance on how things fit.

I really appreciate and enjoy your blog and Instagram posts.

  5. Hi Susan,
You look really good in that colour combination. I tend to wear a woollen open jacket or cropped lined jacket as it warms up. A distant memory now, after months of no toppers. Heading into autumn here, and jackets and scarves season which I love.
    Best wishes

  6. I adore jackets and I have many of them. Your new one is special because of the sleeves. Really good.
