Give Your Skin A Moisture Boost

Colleen Rothschild hydrating skincare for mature skin. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

This time of year can be rough on our skin. Dry air, heated interiors, or sudden shifts in weather can leave skin feeling dry, and looking dull and rough. During Fall and Winter, I focus on hydration, both inside and out. I make sure to drink plenty of water, and dial up the highly moisturizing formulas in my skin care routine.

This post is sponsored by Colleen Rothschild. All opinions and ideas are my own. Products shown were gifted (though I have purchased several of them previously and have used regularly).

Hydrating Skincare

I have a high bar for skincare products. I want them to be effective, but they have to feel good too. Anything that leaves my skin feeling tight and dry, or that sits on top of my skin without absorbing doesn’t make it into my routine.

Skin that’s well-moisturized not only feels better, but looks healthier, and will help your makeup look better too.

In the morning…

I tend to have some dark spots (“pigmented lesions”) and sun damage. In between my annual IPL treatments at the dermatologist, I find a Vitamin C serum helps minimize the resurgence of dark spots. Some Vitamin C treatments are messy oils that can stain clothes. But Colleen Rothschild Vitamin C Treatment Complex is a colorless formula that’s more of a cream, so not messy and non-staining!

Susan B. applies Colleen Rothschild Complete Eye Cream. Details and more moisturizing skin care at une femme d'un certain age.

I’ve been using Colleen Rothschild Complete Eye Cream for the last few months and really like it! One thing I learned from an aesthetician many years ago is to apply eye cream by tapping gently with your ring finger, around the orbital bone and not on the lid. The cream will get where it needs to go.

Colleen Rothschild Extreme Recovery Cream is the moisturizer I’ve been using nightly for the last few months, and I’ve started using it in the morning too. It’s rich but not greasy, and absorbs like a dream.

Susan B. recommends mixing Colleen Rothschild Face Oil No. 9 with Extreme Recovery Cream for a nice glow. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

👉 Tip: for a little extra glow, mix a small amount of the Face Oil No. 9 with with your moisturizer in the palm of your hand before applying!

And of course, I top it all off with a high SPF mineral sunscreen.

At night…

Nighttime moisturizing skincare: Colleen Rothschild Radiant Cleansing Balm and Intense Hydrating Mask.

I’ve been using Colleen Rothschild Radiant Cleansing Balm for some time now, and absolutely LOVE it. It removes makeup, and leaves my skin feeling clean but soft, not dry. It does have a bit of fragrance (clove?) which I love. It comes with a lovely muslin cleansing cloth too!

Because I use prescription Retin-A most nights, I like to follow up with products that are soothing. Age Renewal Super Serum uses peptides, collagen boosters, amino acids and more to help improve skin’s elasticity and radiance. Feels lovely too!

And I finish up with the Complete Eye Cream and Extreme Recovery Cream.

Once a week or so, I like to give my skin a little extra moisture boost with a hydrating mask that I leave on overnight. Colleen Rothschild Intense Hydrating Mask is perfect for this. It’s not greasy, and my skin is so soft when I wake up the next morning!

👉 Tip: For when we start traveling ✈️ again, one of my “hacks” to protect my skin from dry cabin air is to apply a hydrating mask at the beginning of the flight and remove toward the end with a makeup remover towelette. Magic!

If you’ve been wanting to try Colleen Rothschild skin care but aren’t sure where to start, the Discovery Collection contains travel sizes of some of the best-selling products. It’s a great “sampler” option!

Colleen Rothschild products are cruelty-free, paraben-free, and made in the USA. You can shop not only by product type, but by skin concern (e.g. blemishes, uneven skin tone, etc.). With Winter almost here, it’s a great time to give your skin a little extra TLC!

  1. Your skin looks amazing. Now that fall and winter are arriving, I must get back to the retinols. I stop in the summer due to the negative side effects. I keep forgetting to add oils to moisturizers, so will have to set them together until it becomes routine.

  2. Great post; you have some great skin! We should take care with the skin on our face but we also need to think about the skin on the rest of our bodies (I’m starting to get ‘old lady skin’ on my body, the paper thin skin where you can see all of your veins & such). I use an in-shower moisturizer and it works pretty well but in the winter I have to step it up a notch. I use a body oil. I use Chanel; however, they do not make it all year long, just in the fall and winter (I have not yet seen it on their website). I always enjoy your posts, you sure are a hard worker, thank you!

  3. These products all sound lovely! I eagerly tried the intense hydrating mask a couple months ago and was knocked out of my chair by the fragrance, and not in a good way. It was SO intense, and I was worried it would trigger my allergies. Are the other products scented, and how much?

    1. Hi Amanda, the hydrating mask has what I’d consider a light fragrance. I didn’t notice it after I finished applying the mask.

  4. Thanks! I can’t afford that; use a local brand here (Montréal) and am quite happy with it No dark spots (I have more melanin than you but it is true that women from very fair to deep black can have them); I’d have to budget for them if I should need them.

  5. Hi Susan, this is not related to the above post but hope you respond anyway. Several months ago you wrote about a new fragrance you had (and really liked). I was given a sample and loved it, however, I have unfortunately lost the empty sample. I believe it was a fragrance by Gucci, could you please tell me where to find the article on your site or perhaps just tell me the name.
    Thank you.

  6. Susan,
Would you be comfortable telling us what other cosmetic dermatology treatments you have tried or use regularly, in addition to the annual IPL? This is an ongoing question for me! You do have amazing skin, particularly given that you are a SoCal resident, where the sun shines, shines, shines!

    1. Thanks, Joan! I do the annual IPL, and use prescription Retin-A nightly. I tried Botox a couple of years ago, but it wore off after about 4 weeks (and my dermatologist said I seem to be resistant to it) so didn’t think it was worth the cost to continue. But I do use a higher SPF sunscreen religiously, and think that probably makes a difference too.

      1. Thank you, Susan. I have just been reviewing options for IPL in my area, after being afraid to do fractional laser (have “postponed” after seeing 2 dermatologists 5 & 7 years ago). I have had facial spider vein and laser hair removal repeatedly, but I think IPL may be just the thing I can tolerate and DO for sunspots/photoaging and general age-related skin issues. I have photo aging on my ankles that has troubled me, as well: odd where the sun causes greater pigmentation…

I appreciate your bringing it into focus for me!

  7. I have been using Colleen Rothschild’s products for over a year and absolutely love them! I can tell a difference in my skin. FYI-I live in a very dry area of Texas.

  8. Hi susan
Your skin is flawless and so healthy looking. What high spf sunscreen do I use and recommend ? So many mineral based leave a white coating.
    Thank you
