Will you buy me a Dior dress?

“You don’t go to Dior to buy a dress, you go to use the telephone.”

If a modern day Patricia were to ask her thug boyfriend to buy her a Dior dress, it might be one of these…

Or maybe this one
Or this.

All quite lovely but on my budget, I’ll be the one over in the corner using the phone.

  1. Did you see the Dior/Lanvin piece by Cathy Horyn in Friday’s NYT? I had the same thought: exquisite and actually wearable clothes. While I can’t spend it in a retail boutique, with luck these will end up in resale or on a 70% off rack- like Frugal Scholar’s find, a Chloe silk dress at Goodwill for $4. It CAN happen!

  2. like the second…checks are always quite nice. these are pricey at $2,000+ and way beyond what i would spend on a dress.

    have a wonderful monday.

  3. I want the blue one and the pink one. If you find someone to buy you these dresses will you ask them to get me those two?

  4. Duchesse – yes, I saw that piece right after I posted this one. Unlike some designer pret-a-porter, these strike me as being classic and so wearable, this season and ten years from now.

Rita – yes that pose drives me a bit crazy. It seems to be particularly pernicious on websites geared toward twenty-somethings.

  5. Julie – nice to “see” you! Hope all is well with you. Yes, Macy’s is more my milieu.

    materfamilias – yes, indeed!

Imogen – I don’t think I could wear these in reality either, but they make for fun cinematic fantasies!
