  1. Chana Tova! Bonne année 5770!

Funny, I logged on to your site just after sending L’Shana Tovah (or Chana Tova in the French transliteration from the Hebrew) to friends in Paris. He is a Canadian (originally from Toronto, but lived in Montréal for many years) of Polish-Jewish (Ashkenazi) descent; his wife is Sephardic (Moroccan). They have a daugher in lycée now.

They live in the 19th arrondissement, near le parc des Buttes-Chaumont, in an area where there are large Jewish and Muslim Arab populations – lots of nice couscous and other treats.

Most of the Jewish community in that area is Sephardic now, but there is also an old Ashkenazi community, and many actually did survive the war and genocide and return. There are many poignant plaques in the 19th and 20th to resistance fighters of Eastern-European Jewish origin who fell there.

    A sweeter thought: http://piroulie.canalblog.com/archives/2009/09/18/14776573.html

My verification word is “nemni”, a Sephardic name very common in France!
