Cropped jackets seem to still be going strong this fall, despite some forecasts for longer lengths to make a resurgence. As it’s une femme’s belief that the jacket makes the outfit, let’s skip the boring tweeds and have some fun, shall we?
J. Crew metallic bouclé, $295. Funky, yes, but next year you can tell everyone it’s vintage.
Milly Crop Basketweave, $510. Ditch the matchy-matchy skirt and pair with a black leather pencil skirt, or jeans, or even just some nice black wide leg trousers.

Love the color of the J. Crew.
Miss J isn’t sold on the cropped jacket. Being busty she feels she needs a little more length to counter-act it. That being said, she mights be able to pull off the J. Crew jacket & loves the color, adn teh Wm. Rast. Both have the v-neck cut as opposed to the more boxy which MIss J simply cannot do.
I’m loving both short and long blazers for fall …finally I can wear my jackets!
I like the J.Crew and the Marc Jacobs! I am only just learning how to wear these in order to be “proportionally correct.” Otherwise I just look boxy.
I can wear semi-cropped but need more waist (or I should say the illusion of a waist). Fabric quality is everything. Did you buy any of these, Pseu?
toby – it’s definitely bright!
karen – I’ve found that the only way I can wear the shorter jackets is over a longer, softer layer.
LBR – I think you sometimes just have to either resign yourself to looking boxy, or swear off this style. My gold brocade jacket is this way, but when I wear it I understand that I’m going for a vintage look, not for figure flattery.
wendyb – the orange one?
miss janey – yes those would be the two I’d gravitate to as well. I’m not only busty but short waisted, so overall this isn’t the most flattering style for me.
love maegan – we had a few jacket days here, but then the weather lurched back up into the high 80’s again…
duchesse – no, I’m pretty well set for cropped jackets based on the few I purchased a couple of years ago from Forth & Towne. I’m waiting now for some longer toppers.
I never know if a cropped jacket is going to work for me. It is not always best for my figure. I usually take a deep breath before I try one on because I will either love it or hate it. Like Karen said, I think it is about managing proportion.

I covet the Chloe leopard jacket. My 15-year-old daughter is very worried about my recent leopard love. I came home from the salon today with red (at least reddish) hair, which I think would look fab with leopard. Perhaps I’ll wear my leopard scarf to our meet up in Paris.
