Une femme recommends…

Best. Blush. Ever.  And I owe this discovery to my lovely commenters, a few of whom recommended this product in response to an earlier maquillage post.

A little bit of the right blush can make us look healthy, rested and vibrant, though we want to avoid the “war paint” slashes of obvious color. Though I’m not always crazy about the texture of powder blushes, I’ve been even less enamored of most cream blushes I’ve tried. I’ve found it difficult to get a consistent result with cream formulations, and the color often looked too strong and was hard to blend. Boomstick comes in a short tube like a fat lipstick, and deposits a sheer color that gives a natural glow.

When you open the tube: Don’t Panic!  It looks very dark, almost purple, but is actually quite sheer, and the formulation allows your own color to come through once applied. I apply by tapping on my cheeks sparingly where I normally would apply blush. It will look dark at first. Don’t Panic! Blend it (it blends easily with fingers). You’ll see that it’s much more sheer than it initially appears, but still may look a bit red and forte. Don’t Panic! Walk away for a few minutes, then come back and look again. What I’ve found is that the warmth of my skin tends to make it absorb a bit and blend in even more after the initial application, and results in a very natural blush color with just a hint of sheen that stays put all day. (Much better than that “dusted” look some powder blushes deliver.)

Here’s Cindy Joseph demonstrating the Boomstick color.

I tried on the lips, but found it doesn’t last very long as a lip color, and I don’t use on my neck, which is red enough already (sun damage).

Have you tried this product? What do you think?

I’ve thrown out more blush than any other product by far! Could this be the magic one?

  2. April 19, 2011 / 2:00 pm

I can’t wait to try this! I’ve always preferred a cream blush, but they’re hard to find.

  3. April 19, 2011 / 2:48 pm

Sounds like it’s worth a try! Where did you find it?

(But, also, not on the eyes for those of us over 35 — it just makes us look like we’ve been up all night.)

Hmm.. you’ve got me pondering this- blush has always been a disaster for me! But i would LOVE a blush with all the qualities you describe so I guess i’ll try it!
    TFS!!

Wow, I’m going to see if I can buy it in the UK. Cindy looks amazing – with or without make-up!

Yay, you got it! I love this blush, too. I have to disagree with another commenter, I use just a dab on the “hood” of my eye and it makes my eyes look fresh– and no eye shadow needed. I also tap a bit on my forehead (near my hairline). This is the only blush I can do this with and not look ruddy.

My own skin is too pink to add blush but this one does sound nice in terms of ease of application.

I’ve got a Clinique one that’s the same type – cream in a fat tube – and it’s also my favourite blush. Being very pale, I need the subtlest of colour …

I love the idea of this. I will check it out.

Duchesse – YMMV, as they say, but I find this to be a very natural-looking blush, and could see how it would work with a wide range of skin tones.

Rita – hope you like it, let me know what you think!

Rubiatonta – I purchased directly from the Boom! website (link at top of post). Not sure where else it’s available.

Veuve – yes, and thank you for the recommendation! This is really a great product.

Jana@TheSummerHouse – super! Hope you like it.

Jane and Lance Hattatt – that would be a great advertising tag!

  16. April 20, 2011 / 4:20 pm

Susan Tiner – yes, it’s very easy to apply.

denise – if you try it, let us know what you think!

That’s Not My Age – isn’t she gorgeous? And in such a natural way!

Tiffany – didn’t know Clinique makes something similar, but good to know. Yes, I’m on the paler side and so many cream blushes just are too intense on me, or make me look like I’m on my way to an 80’s revival!

Patti – thanks so much! Yes, Cindy is indeed très belle!

Semi Expat – hope you’re able to find it! And you’re very welcome. Hope the days are brighter.

Aunt Snow – it’s definitely worth a try, and let me know what you think!

hostess – I love the texture for our maturing skin. Not cakey at all!

Does anyone know if the blush is unscented? It sounds like a dream come true, but if it’s scented… I’ll have to pass.

  20. April 21, 2011 / 4:38 pm

tagatha – I don’t believe it’s scented. I’ve never noticed any discernable scent at all.

So sorry to be a dissenter, but Cindy Joseph looks OLD and worse… old ladyish. When she adds the dark violet color to her lips, she just looks sad. I thought I had read she was a make up artist, she does not seem to be able to use her talents on her self. Perhaps she should pick up the book Make Up Wake Up by Lois Joy Johnson and Sandy Linter, wonderful books btw.

Thanks for the tip. Did you consider buying her other 2 products Glo and Glimmer? I find myself tempted by the Glimmer.

  23. April 25, 2011 / 6:18 pm

Cindy, thanks for stopping by! This is a great product, and the most natural looking blush I’ve ever tried. I wear it every day now.

Hello to the creators of Une Femme d’un Certain Age!
It’s me, Cindy Joseph, creator of Boom.
Firstly, I want to thank you for listing my product line on your blog. What a delightful surprise to find your write up. I have been getting lots of hits and orders from your readers coming to my website! You must be very well respected by them.
All of their questions are answered at http://www.boombycindyjoseph.com. Demo videos, interviews, ingredient lists etc.
There is a little scent of vanilla in Boomstick Color and a bit of Chamomile in Boomstick Glo.
And, you can use each Boomstick as you wish. Boomstick Color can be used just for adding color to your lips. The whole idea is that it makes your skin look as it does when you are really blushing! From making out to working out your skin takes on color not just on your cheeks and lips but other areas where the capillaries are closest to the surface. The demos on the website explain where those places may be.
You can also email info@boombycindyjoseph.com with questions you do not find answers to on the site.
Most of all I really want YOU to know how much I appreciate your reporting about Boom! And to thank you all for your enthusiasm. Boom is all about fun and pleasure! “A woman’s best cosmetic is taking joy in life.”

Thank you so much for this recommendation. Mine came in last night’s mail. I used it today over the tiniest bit of tinted moisturizer and it looks so fresh I can’t stop checking myself out in the mirror. Like I just came from exercise class or had a bit of sun on my face (which I NEVER do). The color is amazingly universal as my skin is very fair with yellow undertones, with blonde hair and blue eyes and the color works. I do not like powder blush but have never found a creme that stays worth a darn. My skin is pretty dry. Your posts are fabulous. Thanks for all you share with us.

Reflections and a latte – oh, I’m so happy you like it! And thank you.

I just ordered this; I stumbled across this blog and saw the Boomstick entry and went to the site. I love the minimalist ethos and that the products are easy to use and are natural. I can hardly wait to try these products. I am also a fan of Cindy Joseph–one of my favorite models.
