Un Petit Peu de Paris

During one of our days in London, I’d arranged to meet my friend, the fabulous Tish of A Femme d’un Certain Âge, for lunch in Paris. Thanks to the Eurostar, it’s a comfortable and punctual 2-hour ride. From Gare du Nord, it’s a quick hop down on the #4 Metro line to St. Germain de Près….

And this was the scene that greeted me as I stepped out of the Metro into the streets of Paris! Oh, how I love Paris. (These guys were quite good too, and I purchased one of their CD’s.)

We enjoyed a leisurely lunch on the covered patio of the landmark Cafe de Flore, where Tish proceeded to charm the waiters and showered me with gifts: lovely skincare samples (including the Filorga she posted about on Thursday which I’ve been using and will report on soon), fragrant soaps from Provence, a charming little notebook. We chatted and caught up until sadly, it was all too quickly time to go. We did a quick stop at the nearby magazine stand then I dashed off to catch my train back to London. I was back in time for dinner with le monsieur. What an adventure!

Next time I visit, it will be for a few days rather than just a few hours!

  1. Me too, I’m so jealous! Love the street bands so much, and the idea of Tish giving you all those little gifts just reinforces my thinking that she is absolutely wonderful. I am so happy you are having a wonderful time. xx’s

  2. Clever you! I love the Eurostar (and I think St. Pancras is a gorgeous station) but I’ve never done a roundtrip in one day! Talk about ladies who lunch — you’ve taken it to the max, haven’t you!?

  3. What a fun experience that must have been. I read Tish’s blog regularly and can imagine what a charming, interesting lady she must be. Hope your reentry into life is going well and looking forward to more about the trip.

  4. It is amazing how quickly you can travel from London to Paris. I didn’t eat at Café de Flore. Was it good? I will miss all the interesting skin care product choices that you can find in Europe. Tish’s blog always seems elegant to me. It must have been an adventure.

  5. The afternoon you describe sounds like something out of a sophisticated novel. Sigh, something I’ll only ever read about.

  6. Can you just arrange your life so you get to travel – and share your adventures – year-round? I always love your travel journals – thank you!

  7. I have always wondered if you knew the author of “A Femme d’un Certain Age.” What’s the history of that friendship? Also, what is the name of the musicians pictured? It would drive me nuts to only be in Paris for a few hours, and I still think it would be a neat poll to take to ask people what they’d do if they only had one day in Paris. Or 6 hours.
    Love your blog…Merci.

  8. Your short trip sounds great! Love the Metro-music photo!
Whenever I have to arrange business trips for our staff or speakers between London and Paris I go for the Eurostar. Seems to be most convenient and reliable.

  9. I love Paris and I love Eurostar, though I’ve never done it on a day-trip, preferring to stay at least one night in Paris. When we moved to Spain we went by train: my three children came to see me off in style (champagne in St Pancras station!) then we went by Eurostar to Paris before taking the tren-hotel to Madrid. It’s much more civilised than flying! I’m glad that you and Tish had such a good time.

  10. What a perfect day! I am quite envious! I enjoyed following along on your trip…it looked lovely!
