Bon weekend!

Tonight we’re off to the Long Beach Symphony, and for the rest of the weekend we’re girding our loins for the start of a major home improvement project that will have our petite maison topsy-turvy for a few weeks (more about this next week). In the meantime, submitted for your perusal…

White jeans? Tabitha at Bourbon & Pearls gives the topic her signature witty and erudite treatment, while Angie at You Look Fab shows us some great ways to style them.

Lisa at Privilege finds some ways to add some novelty to her work uniform.

Chic At Any Age visits the David Hockney exhibition, and finds some style inspiration.

Leslie at La Fourchette S’est Emballée delights us with a sweet treat with a funny name.

What makeup do you never leave home without?  Zuzu’s Petals at Everyday Beauty shares her top picks.

Whether you’re planning a trip to Paris or any other city this year, Tish at A Femme d’un Certain Age has rounded up some packing and capsule wardrobe suggestions, including one from une femme.

April in Paris: packing tips, capsule wardrobe with blue, capsule wardrobe with pink, and Tish’s own great tips on 10 beauty essentials to pack.

Finally, something just so darn pretty. I first saw this mentioned by Marsha at Splenderosa, then the next day happened to view it in HD on a large screen TV and it’s absolutely breathtaking work.

(I found it quite interesting that the video targets markets of Russia, China and India, all countries with a growing sector of the very wealthy.)

Bon weekend!

  1. Well thank you so much! And I admire your ability to attend the symphony. I inevitably fall asleep. Best wishes for the loin-girding – looking forward to the results?

  2. Ah, the ever stunning Audrey!

Many years ago, I wandered the USSR, and did indeed see some of the splendors of Russia, which were well kept up at the time. (Magnificent.)

Hélas, no exotic visits for my weekend (though I wish I could teleport myself to that Hockney show).

    Lovely roundup!

  3. Thanks for the mention. Clever video. If you can’t afford the goods maybe buy shares in the Company. Have a great week-end.

  4. The last sentence in the parenthesis: … and not any Russia, but the one of the czars!
So simple … and probably so effective!

My weekend started off perfectly so far: I woke up early (which is rare on my weekends), hiked up a mountain in Vienna which provides a spectacular view over the city of Vienna, met Mr Paula’s uncle sitting on a bench, enjoying the sun on the way up (he is around 80 and still very handsome) and even managed to visit 3 stores to check out the cheapest rates for a new pair of skis since my old (actually quite new) skis broke. It is amazing, what you can do if you just get out of bed before 8am!

  5. “girding our loins” is such a fantastic phrase, isn’t it? I can’t wait to hear about your home-improvement project. I am girding my own loins for major yardwork this spring, including a new tree (my lovely dogwood got leveled by a thick branch from a neighbor’s maple), and we’re putting in a new walkway. Can’t decide between brick or cobblestone or slate or bluestone for our wee cottage!

Enjoy the symphony, and thanks very much for the link back. :^)

  6. The most interesting part of your post is the last sentence. Ask yourself why these markets are growing and we’re not.

  7. Arresting, and shrewd marketing. Though the numbers of rich people are growing, they are still a tiny percentage of those countries’ population who could afford Cartier, unless they buy the counterfeits that proliferate there.
