See?? Sensible Shoes

Clarks

Tish has some Paris street style pictures up today!  Note the footwear.

And via Lisa’s post at Privilege, found this wonderful blog (les anti-modernes*) and more thoughts about sneakers in Paris.

  1. I find the Clarks matronly but with the right pants and a well-cut leather jacket, might eat my words.

The Parisiennes in their ballerinas and loafers are usually not walking as far and hard as the typical gotta-see-it tourist. One seems to be wearing desert boots; Clarks and other makes of this style were huge in Paris when I was there in the fall, in both neutrals and colours.

re anti-moderne, maybe athletic sneakers will work if one is wearing those skinny jeans; it’s a very young look and at this point in my life I don’t want to dress like someone young enough to be my granddaughter. There is a certain gravitas and dignity I will lose any chance of projecting if attempting the tight jean.

    1. Duchesse, agreed about the Clarks and not quite my style either, but they do look similar to some of the shoes worn by the women in Tish’s post today, and to what I’ve observed on some women over 50 in Paris too.

I agree that the sneakers are a younger look. (Though today I’m wearing my grey Chucks with my bootcut jeans…)

  2. I have to have a little heel – even 2″ – a bootie, something… but I will do sneaks if they aren’t white! (And even have some with a heel. Yep. You heard that right!)

  3. I love the stitching detail on those shoes! And they still look shapely instead of the typical matronly-looking comfy shoes out there.

  4. I’m breaking in a new pair of loafers for our May trip (along with the oxfords). But I’d definitely think about those sneakers (liked the Pumas you featured in your earlier post) as well. . .

  6. I am so glad to see sensible shoes. I think heels are pretty, but I value comfort and no pain over beauty. There are a lot of what I think are cute shoes that are comfortable. Clarks has out some cute ones this year.

  7. I had a thought this morning while I was contemplating my trip to Italy and my shoe conundrum. We are touring, as Pseu said a while back, and we should dress so our tour is comfortable. I was thinking of my daughter who lives and works in NYC. She will wear far different shoes than I will while we are in NY because she is conducting her daily business there–not seeing the sights and walking all day which is what I’ll be doing in Italy. Still looking for comfort and style,

  8. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Tish’s post and the les anti-modernes post on sneakers. Thank you!

Still, I’m pretty sure I committed a style sin wearing my chucks with a pencil skirt and bare legs!
