Une femme recommends…

Laura Mercier Brow Definer.

I first saw this recommended by Zuzu’s Petals at Everyday Beauty, and made a mental note to investigate next time I was at the mall. When I first started filling in my brows, I used a brow brush and powder, which allowed a lot of precision as well as giving a very natural look, but I noticed that the powder was often gone by mid-afternoon. I switched to a creamy pencil, but found it harder to get a really natural look. This product seems to be the best of both worlds: applied with a regular brow brush I get the ease of application, precision and control (and a natural look) but the gel formula of this product seems to last longer than powders. I’m actually using the lightest color (Fair) which is great for my “le no-makeup look.” But have a Sales Associate help you make your best match from the three available colors.

Have you tried this?  What did you think? Do you have a favorite brow product?

  1. I have very light and somewhat sparse eyebrows and filling them in does make for a much more defined and put together look. I’m big on making them look natural as well. I may try this product. Right now, I’m using a blond eyebrow pencil. Being aware that the result can look unnatural, I apply it very carefully using a magnifying mirror and I’m careful to have an extremely light touch. Sometimes I get my eyebrows dyed–which works well too.

    Thank you for this recommendation!

  2. I don’t often bother with brow product, but when I do, I’ve been using Lancome’s brow groomer — similar to a mascara tube with a narrow wand. Easy to apply, natural look, and lasts well.

  3. My brows are sparse due to a thyroid condition so I need to fill them in and have been using MAC powder.
I have thought of having mine dyed but this product could change all that.
I’ll check this out online as we do not have LM locally.

  4. Now here is something I need! I might have to pick this up this weekend…you are right the powder doesn’t last all day and I really don’t like the look of pencil. Thanks!!

  5. Believe it or not, all I use (these days) is a Chanel “Les 4 Ombres” (Four Shadows) – Quadra Eye Shadow, Prélude.

Sensational. Small, for eyes, for outlining eyes, for brows. Subtle and sensational and lasts, and lasts…

  6. Your makeup always looks so perfect, soft and pretty but with personality. Thanks for this source. As my hair gets thinner so have my brows and I now need something.

  7. God my brows are thinning, wah. Latisse helps, but you have to stay on top of it. I use the LM brow pencil, but will give this gel a try. Powder seems to sprinkle down onto my lids and cheeks giving me an ashy, dirty face. I didn’t know about this product, so thanks Pseu.

  8. I use Bare Minerals brow powder and I like it a lot. It stays put on me and the color looks natural. If I think I need a little more definition I also use Diorshow brow pencil – it is a retractable soft pencil and has a little spoolie brush at the other end.

  9. Just dealt with this yesterday, coincidentally. I get my brows shaped every four weeks, and dyed every eight weeks. When dye fades, I’ve been using Mac’s eyeshadow in Espresso to fill in my brows. Right now, though, I’m growing my brows in a little more, so don’t plan to go back to the salon for a couple of months.

What was left of the shadow crumbled, so I went to find a replacement. I also wound up with Bobbi Brown Natural Brow Shaper in Mahogany. The brow shaper goes on with a mascara brush, and deepens the color in a very natural way. The Mac powder (I bought a replacement for that) evens the color and fills in bare spots.

  10. I’m going to check out Light the next time I’m at a LM counter. I bought Warm (it’s not warm) sight unseen, based on a friend’s recommendation, and I love it, but I am curious if I could go a little lighter. I love how long this brow stuff wears.

  11. Oh yes, yes, yes…I’ve wanted to share this for the longest time. I learned about this wonderful brow pencil at Patricia Stevens Modeling School (this really dates me), and I’ve used it for the last 50 years. It’s really a very soft drawing pencil called an Ebony art pencil made by Eberhard Faber. It fills in the brows beautifully, it’s a nice neutral gray, and the color stays on. My skin texture has changed over the years and it draws a beautiful brow still. They can be purchased at an art supply store.

  12. I have been using the Mercier eyebrow creme for about 3 months now and I adore it. Nicely covers, doesn’t look too painted on like a pencil or too granny like shadow. I use Trish McEvoy eyebrow gel over it to keep those pesky brows in line!

  13. I have been using this fabulous product for about six months. Not only does the color last, but that little pot seems to last and last and last. For a more defined and slightly more dramatic eyebrow at night, I mix in a slightly darker LM eyeshadow (Bamboo). The waxy texture of the Brow Definer helps everything to adhere and last until I remove it.

As we age, our brows need a little attention. Don’t overlook them. They are the perfect frame for your beautiful eyes.

  14. I doubt we have that product over here. Seriously, when the eyebrows are shaped well, very little more is needed.

  15. I’m very happy with Revlon’s Brow Fantasy product, which comes in dark blonde and light brown, along with the usual darker shades. It’s quite good for a drugstore product.

  16. I have been very happy with the results of the Laura Mercier eye brown pencil. I use the colour called blonde, which is more of soft charcoal colour and very flattering on mature faces. It is soft and natural looking. I then just use an old mascara brush (minus mascara) to groom the the brows into some sort of order. I have introduced my Mum to the product. She has no brows to speak of. The pencil still looks very natural on her as well.

  17. Thank you for much for recommending this product. I’m a bit of a beauty junkie and yet hadn’t heard of this. I bought it last week and am thrilled with the results!
