Ça va…
I’m working on the next installment of my Packing For Paris And Provence series, which I hope to have up tomorrow. I created the Polyvore above a few weeks ago, but must admit after seeing Karen’s brilliant travel capsule, am rethinking including so much black. We’ll see.
À demain!

Having traveled recently I’m on the edge of my seat as I watch your ‘packing process.’ Eagerly awaiting your final decisions.
Style Crone, the planning and anticipation is half the fun for me!
I think you should stick with black–dust/mud/dirt less of a worry.
frugalscholar, it certainly does simplify things, and allows a smaller capsule.
My travel wardrobe always revolves around black..
never fails to be the best option for me.
hostess, I think it’s probably the best option for me too, but I want to avoid going all black.
Those sandals are growing on me…
LPC, they are very, very comfortable…
I love that Helmut Lang pullover! As for the black, I’d say you can’t go wrong with that, softened by grey or taupe as above. As always, you’re likely to be enlivening your pieces with a few scarves which will bring you the colour. Whatever you decide, though, I’ll look forward to seeing the capsule. Now how many more sleeps before it’s bon voyage?
materfamilias, I love it too! I have one that’s similar, though not as diagonal in the front. Let’s see…15 more sleeps, I think.
Love the top with the v-neck and sleeves and that diagonal hem. It’s classic with a twist (and elongating to those of us who are petite).
Big Little Wolf, thanks! I have one that’s similar, which will definitely be going with me.
I’m another person who is never sorry when I pack black for a trip–even in the spring or summer. I say center around your black and move on.
By the way, I recently bought a really useful Eileen Fisher short sleeved short wrap (black of course) for wearing over a number of things to dress them up and cover my shoulders. Look for it online in their section of good values brought back. Best of all, I used a $100 reward card from EF and bought it for $17.00.
Susan, you’re probably right, and sticking to black/grey items requires allows me to take fewer pieces. Saw the sweater, very cute!
Black seems heavy for Provence, especially after looking at Tish’s photos today. And she is only 30 miles from Paris. I would leaven the black with something lighter.
SewingLibrarian, I’ll definitely take some lighter pieces, and one or two with some color. Thanks!
I’m never sorry when I pack black. I love it, and somehow, away from home, I feel comforted by knowing it’s such an easy color for me to wear.
kathy peck, usually I’m not sorry either, unless the weather is very warm, which is probably unlikely the last half of April.
Hi!
looking for inspiration?
I travelled light with only one black item: my jacket. I love white, blue, pink and beige when going abroad – white like the fluffy small clouds in the sky, blue like the sky, pink like a strawberry granita (crushed ice drink) and beige like the sand between my feet. Or caffee latte. 🙂

What I noticed (but sssht, don’t tell anyone): when you take a shower before dinner, you can wear the same shirt/blouse for two nights, no problem. And I usually do sweat a lot. But mostly while moving, not while dining.
Looking forward to watching your procress and alterations!
Paula, you did very well with your capsule!
I agree that black is a bit heavy for Provence. I would suggest lightening the t-shirts or that hot Provence sun is going to beat you back. Why not some of those wonderful yellows featured this year? Would be perfect for Provence.
Kolleen, though it may be warmer than in Paris, I don’t think it will be HOT hot in Provence in April. But I am planning to take some lighter linen pieces too.
So simple, so chic. I also rely on black, gray and ivory when
I travel. Of course, that leaves lots of room for a gorgeous scarf or bracelet to be added while abroad!
Patti, thanks! Simple is definitely my goal. I think if I stick to black, grey and white with maybe one or two “wild card” color accents, I should have my bases covered.
Well, a basic color scheme of gray and black might be a great excuse for buying scarves in France…
Terri, like I need an excuse…ha! 🙂
Ca va déja pseu? Have just now had a chance to read your fab posts on Paris. Looks like you had a lovely time…by the way you looked trés chic! Trés, trés bon posts!!!!!!!!!!!
