Note: items in Polyvore are similar but (except for shoes) not identical to what I’m wearing.

    1. Sorry, this outfit is a total bore. Where are the red shoes, red belt and purse. It says “I can’t be bothered.”

  1. This looks great on you. I say you should stay close to what feels right to you–and you are fortunate you can see it and know it when you find it!

  2. The entire outfit works to create a flattering and professional image. I love the way you fold the cuffs of the blouse over the end of the jacket sleeves. Very French!

  3. And you look great. I think kitten heels are one of your signature flourishes. The silver hoops, IMO, unboring the outfit right away.

  4. You look great in these clothes!! It’s definitely the best yet for you. NOT boring, perfect for you.Of course, it’s totally what I would wear as well. Black and white, long jacket, turned up cuffs. (Love your iPhone cover too!)

  5. I can see why this is your “default setting”–it works wonderfully! You look polished and professional, but still feminine.

  6. You look fabulous, here, very sharp; the comfort comes through as a confident ease, a very appealing poise, rather than any frumpy sense of comfortable.
Interestingly, I found myself in my own version of a similar uniform at both days of the conference I was at this past weekend, and I’ve found myself putting together the same look since then. . . skinny jeans, fun flats, a T-shirt or silk top, and a blazer or cardigan. I can’t ever seem to pull off the white-shirt look that you pull off so smartly here.

  7. You nailed this look! You look great, as everyone says.

Glad you’re going to tell us more about the white shirt. I have had trouble finding the right shirt for me, one that fits my proportions, especially chest and neckline. It’s the petite and busty thing, and as I know you can relate, I have great hopes for your research!

  8. Would you vary this from day to day, or wear the same basic items every day – black jacket, white shirt, dark wash jeans?

  9. I am also interested in your post about the Lafayette shirt. I have difficulty wearing blouses and feel challenged in that area.

  10. I cannot tell you how often I wear this exact same look! And it looks great and so appropriate for the professional world. I have tried to talk myself out of wearing black so much…but it just doesn’t work. I am sitting here right now in a white shirt, black pants, and a B & W scarf. I think ultimately we gravitate toward what we love.

  11. Now, Pseu, why on earth would you ever fret that this uniform is boring? It’s crisp, courant, flattering, and personal. It is not “off the rack at the mass department store,” it showcases a flair for touches one needs to look closely to find, so it does not shout I Am Different!! I love it. Professional and individualized. And I bet you feel just like yourself and a rock star in this, ready to manage whatever comes your way. That’s the joy of a uniform. It allows the mind to focus on what matters, not whether you can move…

  12. I think it’s stunning! Professional, stylish and feminine. Can we talk logistics? How do you prevent your shirt sleeves from bunching up under the jacket sleeves? And do you keep the jacket on all day?

  13. A very professional work look. You´d manage well in that outfit over here too, but you´d have to change the loops into studs ; )

  14. Mon chere amie,

Fabuloso!! Is the only mot that comes to mind!!! Bravo!!! You look just so pulled together and elegant!! I have the ingredients!! I just need the blouse to fit properly.. (Chicos) Mille merci!

  15. Don’t they say that the best defense is a good offense?

For a woman with an executive position in a competitive industry, dealing with a special needs child I think it makes sense. You project a sharp, high-quality image with flare but without frill – full price and worth it.

  16. Oh my goodness….. did you steal my wardrobe???? You could be me!!!! Except i’m in Australia. Love the colour pop from your phone. Accessories should be stylish too……

  17. You always look fabulous, but this is the best look I’ve seen on you! You look so long, tall and chic!

  18. Classy and stylish as always. Black and white is always good. 🙂 It’s liberating to have a default uniform, one that is genuinely you.
I’ve found I perform best in knit “uniforms”. I just have a better day when I dress in knitwear. I blame the subtropical heat!
