Yesterday in the wake of the IFB dustup, Bella at Citizen Rosebud challenged us to give a shout-out to style blogs for “the rest of us” that deserve a bit of praise. I’ll admit I’ve been remiss in this in the last few months; I haven’t explored much past my regular reading list, but now that fall’s coming I’m feeling a bit energized and ready to expand my horizons. If you’re ready to do the same and need a starting point, check out Bella’s +40 Blog Roll here.

Longtime readers of une femme know that I’m nuts for scarves. I’ve recently discovered Playing With Scarves, a gorgeous and dedicated foulard-wearer who can show us all a thing or two about what to do with those silk squares!

I think Bella’s call-to-action is a fabulous one, and that the silver lining in this cloud is the renewed support and encouragement we’ve seen in the blogging community.

Bon weekend!

    1. Thank you so much Patti ! It’s a pleasure sharing my personal tips with silk scarf lovers. Have a great day 🙂

  1. Completely oblivious to any brouhaha, but I love this idea of spreading the love. I’m going to pick up the torch later today if I can get organized, tomorrow, if not. Thanks for inspiring me to expand my blog reading and meet some new *40 bloggers.

  2. This is a great idea! You can never go wrong giving those who work hard recognition! I am glad to see several jump on board this positive call to action!

  3. I have no idea what the IFB “dustup” is/was about (should probably check it out as I am also a member), but I am delighted with the result.

You could not have chosen a better Blog to highlight than “Playing with Scarves.” What my friend, Anne, does not know about the care, feeding and wearing of scarves has not yet been invented…at least not yet; just give her a minute and she’ll probably come up with it.

I consider her to be “la reine des foulards.” Chapeaux, mon amie!!

  4. To Kathy Peck,

I really appreciate your responding to my query. I am a very faithful lurker to many many blogs. I find the community of us more vintaged women to be very creative, intelligent and supportive; not to mention inspiring. I hope Catherine is ok.

  5. hmm… I’m another one who has no idea what the IFB dustup is/was – can someone enlighten me? I read this blog most days, but I must have missed that one.

  6. A big thank you dear fellow blogger for mentioning my “playing with scarves” blog. What a nice surprise !
You know I too love your blog very much (already in my list of favorites). And will certainly explore this way to share other blogs. It’s a great idea to promote other works and topics one love.
Une très bonne journée à vous et encore un grand merci :-))))))

  7. @Anonymous – Catherine seems to have disappeared. Closed her email account too. We have a mutual friend who is an author looking into it – will let you know if I hear anything.

  8. The IFB “dustup” began when the published a column on bloggers and body image that was poorly worded and seemed to have been poorly researched. A lot of the style blogging community took offense and responded in comments, which led to some self-defensiveness on the part of the IFB, and several “open letter” posts from other bloggers like Bella’s here.

Both the author of the initial post and Jennine Jacob, head of the IFB have issued apologies which seem to be open and heartfelt, and I hope that for those who are active in the IFB community, they’ll find more inclusion in the future.

  9. I did hear about the incident, but appreciate your clarification. I’m new to this but will spread the word of a few I really enjoy. Your’s is one of them of course. There is so much talent out there, I always love to find wonderful new blogs and am happy to promote some to my tiny audience. Thank you.
Btw- I find a lot of great ones from you, so you always have been promoting others!

  10. Ok, I figured it out–Independent Fashion Bloggers. I read Rosebud’s post. And yes, I appreciate the blogs written for curvy women, 50+ women, etc. If there is a good way to promote them, I’m up for it.

  11. Ah Psue, thanks for highlighting this! I am thrilled to see so many bloggers and style lovers step up and give a shout out to their faves! I do love scarves so there looks like another indespensible blog to add to my list.

  12. I am not sure whats been going on as I have not read the posts, but I think its a great idea to be positive and celebrate and encourage. There are some amazing fashion bloggers who are beautiful inside and out.
