Poll: The Nude Shoe

L.K. Bennett

They’ve been everywhere the last couple of years…Nude Pumps. Stylists have touted their leg-lengthening, flattering properties, while others now consider them a “safe and boring” choice. Are the nude shoe’s 15 minutes as fashion’s darling now over?

Let’s have some fun! I’ve put up a poll on the right sidebar.  Your vote counts!!

  1. My “must-have” nude pumps (Pierre Hardy) have been consigned (literally) to history (the consignment shop). Whatever leg-lengthening properties they may have, they just don’t fit my lifestyle or where I live (Paris). I now take “must-have” lists with a grain of salt and a good look around. 😉

  2. I enjoy my Stuart Weitzman nude heels–not quite as high as the shoes you show here. I’m not someone who has to be on trend and I find them to fit the bill when others shoes do not. By the way, I can’t see the results of the poll–the numbers are cut off the screen (even though I have plenty of room–they are just not all there).

  3. I don’t care if anyone says they’re on their way out.

Love, love, love – in a pump, in a strappy sandal, even in a boot – if you’re wearing a longish skirt that is the same color (I adore that look).

For a woman with short legs, a nude heel elongates and is extremely flattering. Period. (In other words, what Lynne said – “we shrimpy types love the extra length….”)

Yep, the nude on nude, or the black on black. That’s how we Mini-Babes like to roll…

  4. Une Femme, I did use the scroll bar and the numbers are still cut off. I can see that the Classic is in the forties , but it is as if someone sliced the other numbers in two. (In other words, there is still space to the right of the numbers, but the numbers themselves are incomplete.)

Back to nude heels. I am tall and have long legs (short waisted a bit) and I love my legs looking even longer.

Diedra, if it is any solace, my nude heels are no where near the same shade as my sking. But I know what you are saying.

  5. I like them and have nude-ish wedges, sandals and even knee-boots. Haven’t got the classic pumps yet, but will do. I don’t mind if I’m a bit behind the curve anyway!

  6. I hope they’re not on their way out…I depend on my nude pumps when black or some other color just won’t do. In fact, I am going to wedding this weekend and am wearing a raspberry/burgundy outfit that my nude pumps look great with!

  7. I love them depending on the style and tone for that certain ensemble!

Oh, and I am having an amazing Giveaway of Plush Pumpkins from Love Feast!

    1. @ Susan, I agree. I’m using the term that’s in general use for “shade that is intended to match skin tone” (which can mean anything from alabaster to toffee to ebony). I’m open to suggestion!

  8. I voted but thought I should explain my bias, er, point of view, which is low to the ground. I’m short dontcha see, and while I know many wildly stylish and clever fashionistas boo down the nude shoe, we petite shrimpy types love the extra length created by bare legs and a nude shoe, or black tights and black shoes. Oh, so boring, or oh, so taller-looking? Methinks the latter.

  9. Meh. They serve a purpose ( dresses where identifying a better choice, like navy, black, oxblood, grey, or patterned doesn’t seem to look right). But they remind me of playing with Barbies. They simply look like one couldn’t find a better shoe. Boring.

  10. I never really liked them, but I thought it was just me. I think this color works better in a sandal, when the bareness is not just an illusion. Otherwise, it looks like you’re trying to suggest that you’re barefoot, while it’s obvious that you aren’t. It’s just too close to a white shoe, which I’ve always disliked.

The other day, I tried on a British tan colored pair of kitten heels, and I was smitten. The effect was leg lengthening because of the neutrality of the shoe, rather than an absolute match with the color of my legs.

    Does that make sense?

  11. I have never had nude shoes. Somehow, they – regardless the model – remind me of grandma shoes, ouch; ).

  12. Never wore them, never “got” the idea of shoes pretending not to be there. Why would we want the illusion of not wearing shoes, anyway? And, shh, people know how tall you are whether or not you’re wearing “nude” shoes.

  13. I love them. No matter what color my dress is, when I put on nude color heels, my legs look SO MUCH longer…

  14. I like them and think there is a category that we might call Give it a Rest Because It Was Overworn, But It Will Be Classic Once the Trend Dies Down. Does that make sense, bare-ly?

  15. I don’t have a pair but I do think they would be useful – a classic staple so to speak like a pair of black trousers. But it is not really the type of shoe that gets your heart beating wildly!
