When In Doubt…

So I’d made a conscious decision to take a pass on the current animal print trend. Sure, some are rather cute and fetching, but most I’d seen skewed a bit too twee. But then I spied this blouse at Madewell, and immediately began reconsidering my prior disdain. Sometimes emotion just wins out. I mean….HORSES! Perhaps I was also staring down the barrel of another week of very warm temperatures, and figuring this shirt would be a good lightweight layering piece for the office. I liked it a lot at first; I’m less certain now. While the Big Shirt silhouette fits nicely into my long-over-lean wardrobe strategy, it’s also probably not the most flattering top I’ve ever owned. Either way, the tags are off and it’s mine now.

But dogs make everything look better, n’est-ce pas?

  1. No way you could have resisted that — no way!
Too funny, though, because I picked up an animal print shirt on the weekend as well after going through the “no I won’t” process — mine was at J Crew — navy with small stylized hens all over it. Again, too cute, but the lines are clean, the shape of the shirt very neat yet forgiving, all kinds of practical in my list of reasons, cough excuses cough. . .
Now I just need to scare up some distracting dogs — yours are v. cute!

    1. @materfamilias, it’s reassuring to know I hadn’t lost my mind. I’ve seen that J.Crew shirt and it’s very cute but not “cutesy.” They have a scarf in that print too…

    2. I saw the scarf! In fact, I’d resolved that if the shirt didn’t suit, I wasn’t leaving without the scarf. And even after I bought the shirt, I lingered for a moment by the scarf . . .

  2. I have been telling myself “no” to the animal shirts — but your new shirt is winning me over – you look wonderful, crisp and casual, and very of-the-moment. Thanks for sharing your great look, and gorgeous doggies, with Visible Monday,

  3. Your dogs are very handsome, well groomed and they look like they are well trained as there is no sign of them yanking your arm as they walk!
How wonderful that you are still enjoying the warm weather…I had to put on layers today and am wearing my faux fur vest!

    1. @hostess, thank you. They mostly are good on the leash, unless someone goes by on a skateboard! (For some reason they hate skateboards and go crazy.)

  4. Dressing for 100 degrees with a fall color scheme would be a big problem for me. Most everything I have for that kind of weather is light colored.

If I’m outside in those temperatures I always wear a hat!

  5. Ooh horses! There must be something in the air! I just did bids…now you have horses! WHen do you suppose someone will do a lesser-known animal, like a mongoose or perhaps a sea cucumber. I would be all over that. Love the black print Madewell top, and it complements your two dogs nicely!

  6. Honestly : This shirt is by far one of your best purchases in ages; worn just like as you wear it in the pictures.
    Clapping my hands!

  7. I love the shirt! It looks great on you and the color of your jeans is terrific. Your dogs are just adorable. Overall I’d say a big fashion yes!!

  8. The boots are perfect with your skinny slacks! The blouse is a great idea and may help you to expand your persona in many ways! See what the future brings! Cats, dogs, horses, birds are all part of the popular culture! We all wear pins with animals, scarves with animals…viva la difference!

  9. Darling shirt! I love it with the maroon pants. You look comfortable yet stylish…and I just love that spiky bracelet.

  10. Really like this shirt on you! There’s a liveliness to the print, and it’s so jaunty (or should I say, walkie?) with the jeans. Shake a paw, girl!

  11. Oh my, you wear the dog so well!! Seriously, I love the pants…great color. You look wonderful in this and your dogs are so cute! Loved seeing more of you on the blog!!!

  12. I really like your horse-print shirt. I didn’t know animal designs on shirts were big… What do I know? The main thing is, you look great. I style-eyed a woman once who said she dresses to match her dog – mind you, it was a beautiful dog in a lovely neutral colour! Your dogs are fantastically adorable.

  13. I’ve been jonesin’ for a horse print blouse, and like yours very much. I can see it tucked into a long, lean pencil skirt. It does rather say FUN 🙂

    1. @Lynne, I actually had planned to try this with a pencil skirt at some point! (Though I’m not a tucker, but think it would still look cool.) Thanks!

  14. Oh my goodness, how could you ever have doubted? The shirt is great, and I am loving the color of your jeans. You put everything together so well, your an inspiration!! By the way, the dogs arent bad either 🙂

  15. I bought a blouse from ASOS with dogs on it. They look like silhouettes of Airedales, so how could I resist? It has a bow and a peter pan collar. I thought I could remove the bow, but they sewed it on so heavily it can not be removed. Oh well, I love it anyway.
Your top is really cool, and it goes great with the jeans. The dogs are great models! Really wonderful dogs, such beautiful coats.
