Enfin, vendredi!
What a week! Due to Hurricane Sandy, our New York office has been closed all week, which meant (to oversimplify) that a substantial portion of the workload shifted to our LA offices, and we had to keep things running without having access to people with vital information that we need on a daily basis. And to start off the week, the power was out in our building on Monday, forcing us to re-deploy a department of 60 to various offsite locations in order to work, while still having to meet our normal deadlines. I feel like that guy up there on the flying bottle of wine, hanging on for dear life! But I can’t complain; some of our East Coast folks are still without power, working online whenever they can turn on their generators. Some aren’t even that fortunate.
I’ve been working upwards of 12 hours a day, between the office and checking/answering emails in the evenings and early mornings from home. I’ve barely had time to read any blogs, let alone blog myself. And knowing that some of my co-workers and friends are still struggling without power (and heat, and hot water) has made it hard to focus on the “peripherals” like clothing and style.
Thanks for bearing with me while I’ve been mostly MIA from the blogosphere this week. My plan is to regroup a bit over the weekend, and be back to regular posting by Monday. In the meantime, here are a couple of gratuitous Paris pictures…

Like Pam wrote, perspective is invaluable. I was feeling stressed by various life/work events, until I contemplated doing this without electricity or transportation. Your Paris pictures really hit the spot today, Une Femme!
It hadn’t occurred to me that Sandy would have impact on work groups this side of the country, but of course it did. Sorry you’ve been so busy. And yes, to those recovering, may it go swiftly.
How terribly frustrating for everyone involved especially those back east in the wake of that nasty storm.
It’s an eye opener and it’s too bad that employers cannot just say OK let’s take a day or two off when dealing with a natural disaster.

I also have had a stressful week…but NOTHING even close to hurricane victims. My heart is just ripped apart as I look at the pictures from an area of our country I have loved for a long time. I hope things settle down for you soon…my life will be crazy for a few months ahead…but it does help to keep things in perspective!
Sandy impacted the whole country in ways we didn’t even realize, I guess. Sorry for the extra work load, and thank you for filling us in.
Thanks for the post. We feel so sympathetic toward the people, including you, affected by the storm. After Hurricane Ike, we had no electricity for two weeks. For us it was a real reminder of how much we take for granted like electricity for lighting and being able to shower, flush a toilet, and wash clothes. Street lights out, city dark, and debris everywhere. People standing in lines to get bags of ice to keep their ice chests cool. Tired of eating non-perishable foods. We are truly grateful for the normalcy of our own lives and pray for those so devastated by this storm.
Sounds like a time of it for you and your entire company…hang in there!

We are all New Yorkers during this time of crisis on the East Coast. Thank you for the donation reminder and hope that things calm down for you soon.
The ripple effect is just remarkable, this is a stellar example of the storm’s broader impact. Hopefully next week will be better for everyone, it has been gratifying to hear from friends and family who are getting power and running water back.
And pictures from Paris are *never* gratuitous IMO! (insert grin)
