Random Bits, March 9th

Yesterday while I was driving home from work, the most amazing full rainbow appeared in the sky to the east. From some angles, it was even a double (top picture). Everyone was pulling over to the side of the road or coming out of buildings to take pictures. It’s always nice to see that people haven’t lost their sense of wonder.

We’re still slogging through the bureaucracy to get le jeune homme transferred to the other school. Everyone agrees it’s a better placement for him, but it requires more meetings and forms. The good news is that we seem to be getting closer to the combo of meds that suppresses the aggression but doesn’t turn him into a zombie.

Thanks to everyone who has kindly shared tips and suggestions for our upcoming travels. We’re developing our itinerary and your feedback has been immensely helpful! Bloggers, if you’re interested in a London meetup sometime between May 8 and 13 and we haven’t already connected, please email me.

I’m hoping to travel this time with just my iPad rather than the laptop, so am practicing using the apps to blog. Let me know if anything looks funky.

Bon weekend!

  1. Whenever I see a double rainbow, I tell myself something wonderful is going to happen : > Best of luck as you slog through the administrative paperwork for your son – I know you’ll be a the finish line soon.

  2. Gorgeous rainbows!

I am leaving this month on a trip to Paris and would love to not bring my heavy and cumbersome laptop. What apps are you liking for blogging? I see that you used blogsy for this post and it looks good.
Also, do you download photos from your camera to your iPad? I would like to have that option and am looking into an attachment to do just that.

    1. Adrienne, I have both the iPhone and iPad, and they talk to each other via iCloud. So the pictures I take with the phone show up in my photo stream on the pad. So I don’t even have to download. No, I don’t work for Apple, LOL. The Blogsy app had the best reviews, and seems to do what I need it to. I also downloaded the Blogger app but can’t figure out how to upload pictures, so haven’t used it.

    2. Thanks, Deja. I have a new camera that we want to bring. I bought an adapter today so I can download. I probably would not have left my laptop at home had it not been for your post. So thank you. The laptop stays and the ipad, camera and adaptor come with.
I’ll check out Blogsy too. Not really planning on any blogging – it’s a quick trip – but one never knows when the mood to blog will strike!
      Thanks for the reply!

  3. Rainbows always seem to bring us HOPE when we need it the most! They are so worth capturing the moment. I hope all it well with your son very soon.

  4. Amazing – it doesn’t even look like there’s any rain!

Sounds like you are going to have a wonderful trip – how exciting!

  5. I love rainbows… childhood memories… playing outside… my favourite little book about a rainbow and its colours.

This post looks perfect on iPad and iPhone. I’ll be travelling to Italy for a couple of days and I am glad you mentioned ‘Blogsy’. I’ll check that on iTunes.

  6. If you are going to Oban be sure to take a boat trip to Staffa to see Fingle’s Cave.We got tickets from Bowmans (shop on the main street near the ferry terminal) which took you to Mull, Iona and Staffa all on one trip. But be sure to wrap up very warm – it can be cold and wet especially on the boat and be sure to wear “sensible” shoes – ground can be wet and slippery and bumpy. If you look at my not very updated blog – October 9th 2012 I have some pictures there of the trip.

  7. Lovely rainbow!

Good news about Le Jeune Homme.

The only time I tried to rely only on an I-pad without my laptop, I realized that I could not download my camera photos on it. There must be a way to do it, you’d think, but I couldn’t figure it out. Let us know if you solved that!

  8. You can easily download photos straight from your camera to your ipad with this

You put your camera card into the card reader, plug it into your ipad and within seconds your photos are on the ipad. I have the first one – the camera reader and it is brilliant.
If you have an older i pad you will need to make sure you get the compatible one
