Out For A Spin

This is another “road test” of an outfit comprised of items I’m planning to pack for our trip. (Holy moly, we leave in just a little over two weeks!!!) I knew when I purchased the jacket that I’d want to try pairing it with this tee, and am very happy with the result. I want to include at least a couple of tops with some color and print, as last time I grew very bored with my all-solids capsule. Here I’m wearing the tee over the Adea 3/4 sleeve shirt; wanted to test this as I may will probably need to layer for warmth. My favorite blue scarf also looks great with this, but I left it off so you could see the tee.
I’m not as thrilled with the wash on these jeans, which have much more obvious fading on the front of the thigh than I prefer (and definitely more than is visible indoors, looking in a mirror). I’ll probably stick with a solid dark wash pair for the travel capsule.
This shot below is for Duchesse at Passage des Perles, who is the reigning Queen of All Things Pearl, and introduced me to www.pearlparadise.com. I’ve been trying for weeks to get a picture that captures the insane glowing lustre of these keshis from Pearl Paradise, and still haven’t completely succeeded.

Head to toe:

Earrings: Pearl Paradise, here. (Sign up for their email notices, as they often have special promotions and discounts.)
Adea tee (not visible), here. (Mine received in consideration for review, which you can read here.)
Linen print tee: J.Crew, this particular print no longer available. Here’s a polka-dot version.
Jacket: Theory, here.
Jeans: NYDJ, here.
Boots: Arche, here.

  1. Great pattern on that tee, and yes, the pearls are glorious.

Wonder if you could wear the same outfit with the jeans tucked into some moto boots:).

  2. You are so ready to take us travelling with you! This is a crisp-looking outfit — sharp, yet comfortable. I’m going to chime in as also not minding that was on the jeans.

  3. I particularly enjoy the idea of taking your planned outfits for a “spin”. I tend to plan outfits for travelling that does not seem to work when I reach my destination, best to test them in advance as you are doing, great idea!Nice outfit! Jeans are just so great for travelling!

    1. Nicolene, I’ve learned the hard way too, when I arrive at my destination and only a fraction of the pieces I’ve packed actually work together. Thank you!

  4. Perfect outfit! I think I commented on your blazer earlier, I really like it a lot. Agree with dark jeans. I have a pair of boyfriend jeans in a lighter blue but generally I prefer dark blue.

    Very nice portrait photo!!

  5. Great outfit for your trip Susan… although it’s still cold in London!
I am hoping we have a catch up.. i shall be in touch soon… xv

  6. You look so stunning in these pictures. I love the jacket and am searching thrift for something similar…love the tee with it. You are going to look perfect for your trip!!

  7. It’s a winner. The shoulder line on that jacket is just perfect. I think the jacket would look great with bootlegs too.

    1. sisty, thank you! Funny, it was the fit on the shoulders that first sold me on this jacket. I agree on the bootlegs but generally don’t pack them for travel.

  8. Love this look so much! Nothing better than a great fitting blazer and jeans…a pretty top is just an icing on the cake!
What a smart way to test drive your outfit for the trip!

    1. gracefully50, thanks so much! It’s like magic finding blazers that fit like this, isn’t it? I’m usually wary of prints but with this tee it was “un coup de foudre.”

  9. I love this outfit, though I agree that you will probably need to wear your gorgeous scarf with it! I look forward to seeing photos of you wearing it on your holiday. By the way, have you booked a trip to Paris on Eurostar? It’s worth splashing out on first class then asking them for a glass of champagne with your meal (if having breakfast, you can drink it with orange juice!)

    1. Sue Walker, thanks, and yes, I’ve been planning for cooler weather, which will mean scarves. Yes, I’ve booked my Eurostar ticket, but think it’s a step down from First. The tickets were quite pricey!!

  10. A jacket and jeans is my favourite combo when it comes to clothes (outside pyjamas). Those earrings are very beautiful.

    1. Sulky Kitten, thank you! I’ve long been a believer in Jacket+Jeans, though lately the really good jackets have been few and far between. Pajamas are sounding really good about now….

  11. Looks beautiful and I like the slightly washed look of those jeans. Jeans and a jacket are also my go-to outfit, when like Sulky, I’m not in PJs. Earrings are gorgeous.

  12. I am still at a loss to figure out why you ever thought you couldn’t wear blue. It looks so wonderful on you! I envy the ease you’ve found in this blazer/jeans/boots system, which truly looks both sharp and relaxed. I put on a blazer and feel like I’m wearing a costume, no matter what style I try. You will be a chic traveler for certain.

    1. Gretchen, thanks! I don’t know, just had in my head that I was better in “earth tones.” I love having a system, though it’s taken me a long time to hit that groove again.

  13. Very, very nice. It makes me want to try a print once again. My closet is full of solids with the exceptions of two polka dots, three stripes and one paisley (in black and cognac, so almost a solid). I do like Arche shoes and booties a lot. Style and comfort!

  14. Oh my, my, those earings are gorgeous! I’ve bought from that pearl company before, and been very satisfied. I also have very similar Arche boots in a lovely dark brown color. The heel height is fantastic for femmes of a certain age. You will do a brilliant job packing for London, no doubt. Hope you do a polyvore on the floor just before you leave. I will memorize your choices for my trip to London later this summer!

    1. Marguerite, thanks so much! I’ve heard nothing but great things about Pearl Paradise. Aren’t Arche boots wonderful? I bought a pair in Paris in 2009 that are still going strong. And yes, I’ll be doing a Polyvore on the Floor. I’m waiting until the last few days and constantly checking weather reports.

  15. Your blues suit you and you look comfortable and ready to go on your trip. It’s still cold in Paris and London so you might need a warm coat over your jacket. I really like Arche footwear. I read the Duchess yesterday and want to buy some Keshi pearls.

    1. Madame Là-bas, merci. I’ve heard that the long-term forecast if for continued cooler-than-normal weather. I do have a raincoat with a removeable wool liner, so think that should be sufficient.

  16. I have heard great things about Pearl Paradise. I love those Keshi pearls on you – the color is fantastic! Thanks for the discount tip. 🙂

  17. You are as elegant as the pearls in the close-up! Looking forward to checking in with your capsule as you prepare for this trip. Now off to the pearl site that you recommended.

  18. Susan, you look so beautiful in all of your recent photos!

Jeans and jacket combos are perfect for traveling and the pearls are to die for. There may be a pearl splurge in my future :).

  19. I know what you mean about solid-overload. In another life, I used to plan on shopping a little for separates to perk up what I brought with … nothing makes me feel less tired than something new to wear to go that extra mile.
Very cute, your choice. Good ideas.

  20. Love the tee – hate the jeans. I agree with you completely. Unless I’m bumming around my jeans are either indigo blue or colored. Faded jeans age a girl like crazy.
I have the opposite problem. I love print, especially polka dots and geometrics, and I have to be careful to buy enough solid pieces to mix and match effectively.
If I had pierced ears I’d kill for those earrings 😉
