Sweater Girl

striped sweater, tunic sweater, skinny jeans

Sweater: Alice + Olivia / Jeans: Eileen Fisher / Boots: purchased in 2008, similar / Earrings: Argento Vivo, similar / Bracelets: Stella & Dot, J.Crew, similar color / Watch: Michael Kors

A couple of weeks ago after dropping off my used Nespresso capsules for recycling at Bloomingdale’s, I stepped onto the down escalator and immediately spotted this sweater, strategically racked right at the bottom. It winked and blew me kisses all the way, and by the time I stepped off on the second floor landing, I was smitten. Often after a clothing coup de foudre, the try-on is a disappointment but not this time. I think we’re going to have a long and happy relationship.

This sweater hit all the right notes for me. It’s fun and just girly enough, but not twee. The swingy cut flirts with a bit of volume, but the light weight and drape keep it from veering into tent territory. I’d wear it in Paris. Even le monsieur, who rarely notices what I’m wearing, said (unsolicited) “wow, nice top!” when I tried it on at home. Purchased at the start of the last heat wave, I figured it would be too warm to wear it for weeks, but the Universe was in a magnanimous mood and gave us a few days of cool-enough weather.

  1. It’s lovely when “they” find us, isn’t it? Takes all the tough decision-making out of the equation, and we just know the new love is coming home with us. Looks great on you!

  2. Now, with the cool weather (cooler than the 100’s we have had) I was thinking about pulling out a Vogue pattern I have that is the same as your sweater. I recently just picked up a some wonderful knit yardage from the Fabric District and am itching to sew them up.

  3. Nice! I’m a believer in snapping up those lovely items that call to you. Sometimes it might be a mistake, but more often than not it’s something that I love and wear for ages. I’m hoping that a dark jade green fake leather moto jacket I got in France will be one of the latter category.

  4. You look wonderful in this sweater, it suits you! I am a big fan of Alice + Olivia, I always stop by to see what’s on the racks there when I am at Bloomingdale’s. XO, Jill

  5. I can see why it blew kisses and winked, it’s perfect! Really stunning. The cowl neck is flattering on you. Btw, I love how you’ve been angling your face in recent photos. I should try that. Maybe it will help me be a little less camera shy.

  6. Love the top–I think these new asymmetrical shapes can be very flattering.

You always have the BEST boots! xoxo

  7. Oui je suis d’accord avec le Monsieur
    Le haut est très beau!
I wonder if Men have love affairs with their clothes –
I wonder if their eye work the same way as us- We can spot from any distance i think a fabulous item…

  8. Very good looking. Smart. Not tenty, but with a flair… so you. Good for you. I agree about the try-on as eliminator. An underused tool, but I’m getting more disciplined about it.

BTW ,,, I’ve been looking for a black moto, and keep seeing yours with you in it when I look at them. Helping me remember what I like about the style!
