For those of you in the Northeastern U.S., I hope you’re doing OK in the big blizzard! If you’re hunkered down at home, I hope you have plenty of provisions and a good internet connection. 😉

I’d like to thank reader Katherine, who in comments on this post recommended….

Living Proof Perfect Hair Day 5-in-1 Styling Treatment
Living Proof Perfect Hair Day 5-in-1 Styling Treatment

I’ve avoided using any styling products in my hair for the last couple of years, as I find they tend to weigh down and flatten my fine, thin hair. But this one delivers on every single thing it says on the label there. My hair seems to have more texture and body, yet is smoother and less “flyaway.” I can’t address how it will work on other hair types, but I’m hooked.

By the way, I ended up with this dryer: BaByliss Pro Tourmaline Titanium 3000. Quite satisfied with it so far.

How’s your week shaping up? Have you found any fabulous new beauty products lately?

  1. I agree! I love Perfect Hair Day. Best product ever. The Texture Mist and the Control Hairspray from that company are also great on my fine hair.

  2. Thanks for the nice note you left. So far we are experiencing less snow more wind. Just hoping we do not lose power. My friends in NYC & Boston are all getting a snow day. Nobody unhappy about that!

  3. I am definitely going to try it. I have had a hard time finding a hair product that is not too heavy. I recently, for the first time in a long while, had my make-up done at MAC and the makeup artist started with something called Prep and Prime. Unlike other primers that I have tried (again too heavy) this is super light and really smoothes out my skin. As my skin seems to be thinning out I just don’t want weight on my hair or my face.

  4. My sister recommended this Perfect Hair Day 5 in 1 Treatment. I bought the travel size combo of treatment/shampoo/conditioner. LOVE the treatment and the conditioner!!! Can’t really tell a difference with the shampoo. The trick with the treatment is (for my fine, neck length hair) to only use about a pea-size amount. I rub it between both hands and then put in my hair. The first time I used way too much but this smaller amount works great.

  5. I discovered a product in my Birchbox that is one step and does it all–“It’s a 10” is now available at drugstores.
Several sprays from this one product and my hair is smooth, with body and shine. There is no stickiness or buildup.

I have been using the Redken Nanoworks shampoo for years, specifically formulated for “aging, colour treated hair”
(yes, that would be correct!). I will, however, try the Living Proof shampoo

The best beauty product I have found lately is the Vitamin C treatment, Bakel Thio C, which made a noticeable difference
    in brightening my complexion.

It’s recommended to use the series of vials once or twice a year, but I plan to use it more often.
Bloomingdales and The Dermstore sell this product–Dermstore has coupons.

    1. I absolutely agree on “it’s a 10 miracle leave in plus keratin”. I spray twice on my hands and rub together, then work through my short hair and it really makes my hair softer to the touch while still holding some shape without being stiff or heavy. Plus I think it smells great. I actually found it in my local grocery store’s shampoo aisle.

  6. How strong is the smell? I tried one of Living Proof’s earlier products and simply could not use it because the fragrance was so strong and did not fade all day long.

    1. it’s not that strong – I had another living proof product – this dry spray and I had to toss it because the scent was strong and not good. This one is very mild, almost no scent at all.

  7. I just purchased the BaByliss Nano Porfofino dryer & absolutely LOVE it! My hairdresser recommended it & I have to say, it’s by far the best dryer I’ve ever had.

  8. I live in UK & have just been to QVC beauty bash in London where the fuller hair mousse in this range was showcased. My hair is baby fine strawberry blonde which I’ve just had cut into a bob as I admired your lovely hair. This mousse is a game changer. I look like I’ve had extensions but hair feels naturally thicker & with lots of movement.

  9. I’m thrilled you tried it! I forgot to bring my “Perfect Hair” the last time we traveled, and I went out of my way (in Rome, actually) to find a Sephora because I couldn’t live without it!

  10. I have fine hair also and want to report that Aveda has reformulated their Dry Remedy products to work for those of us with fine hair. I’ve enjoyed the reformulation and think it works for my fine hair which is long. They also have a new oil for dry hair which is NOT oily (I know, that is strange). I’m so pleased with it. My local Aveda shop gave me several samples and I have been pleased. I have age 62 long hair which is color treated (highliights).

  11. I use the Living Proof ‘Frizz’ (they show the word with a line through it) products for my curly, frizzy, very unruly hair especially in our hot humid summers. But I use the leave in conditioner all year and love it! The smell of the entire line is wonderful, and the products DO work…well, I still have some frizz, but it helps!

  12. Fabulous (non-hair) beauty product: after you recommended Le Volume de Chanel mascara (and it was on a buy 2, get 1 free sale at Nordstrom that you alerted everyone to), I tried it, and it is indeed fabulous. So fabulous that after I’d been wearing it all day and was at a late-day facial appointment (because I now take Tish Jett’s advice to heart), the esthetician said “what is that mascara you’re wearing, it looks great.” She told me she sees women’s mascara all day every day, and she was impressed with mine. Wow! Could there be a better endorsement?

  13. Well, youurned me on to Clarins products so I just purchased Clarins Hand and Nail Treatment Cream. It is wonderful. Leaves my skin so soft for so long. So that’s my new hand cream. Thanks. Next mascara I purchase will be Chanel. Love how you test everything out for us. Thanks.
