Eileen Fisher pleated skirt 2 waysIf you follow me on Facebook or Instagram* you may have seen these on-my-way-to-work outfit selfies I posted earlier this week. I’ve had this Eileen Fisher jersey pleated skirt for several weeks and have not worn it much, and now I can’t figure out why not. It’s so easy to style and extremely comfortable! I’ll be reaching for this one much more often in the future. (For reference, I’m wearing a Petite Small.)

It’s on sale now at Eileen Fisher, in Misses, Petites and Plus sizes so run don’t walk if you are looking for a comfortable, travel-friendly skirt.  (Lots of other great items on sale too.) Shipping is free on any order over $250, or if you live near one of their stores you can have it shipped there for free with no minimum order.

Do you wear skirts often? What’s your favorite style?

  1. You look fabulous in a skirt and that one is what I would call a wardrobe essential. The fabric is comfortable, the length perfect and it can be warn and styled so you can go from 7:00AM to 2:00AM if need be. The white cardigan and beautiful dark floral scarf is my favorite. I have skirts that range from the length you are wearing all the way to ankle length. I absolutely love skirts and have a huge collection.

    1. Accidental Icon, thank you! I love the longer skirts you’ve worn on your blog. You always seem to get the proportions just right. I’ve been a bit intimidated by longer skirts but you’ve inspired me to experiment a bit more.

  2. You do look fab in a skirt, they show your beautiful legs. I tire of the ubiquity of the dark-jeans-and-jacket, on everyone, everywhere- and I just love this look!, which really is not any harder to put together.

  3. Oh too early in am., I mean, “IT shows your beautiful legs”. You are of course wearing only one skirt 😉

  4. I have had this exact skirt for a year (and it’s my only skirt)- it is terrific for travel. It’s like a black-pants equivalent, especially when I need something dressier for an evening.

    1. pamlally, that’s great to hear! I’m now planning to include this skirt in my travel wardrobe for later this spring.

    1. Thank you, Frances. I don’t know why I’ve shied away from skirts so much in the last couple of years, but they’re now back on my radar.

  5. I just discovered you a few months ago and now I can’t miss one of your posts! You have reignited my love for Eileen Fisher and even more importantly, introduced me to French Kande, Jewels of the Vineyard (love, love, love) and Chantecaille lipstick (did I spell that right? I’m too lazy to check.). I had to write now because I bought this same skirt at the beginning of the season (only time I’m ahead of you) and I wear it at least once a week. So comfy and I have had a few people tell me they love it. A plain, black skirt? Go figure. I might have to get the white sweater/jacket you are wearing here since it looks great and would be easy to take on a trip. I just love your style and your outlook on just about everything. I wish you lived next door! Thank you for what you do; it gives me great ideas and a lot of pleasure.

  6. I love skirts and wear them more often than jeans or trousers, however it is -16C today and I’ve donned jeans OVER tights to head out to a greengrocer’s nearby. Nobody looking at anyone’s legs outdoors today.

Since I always ride my bicycle when there isn’t snow and ice, my favourite skirts are gore skirts with a bit of fullness.

And yes, lovely gams, as the hard-boiled sleuth would say…

    1. Thank you lagatta à montréal! Yes, I don’t imagine skirts would be as comfortable in those temperatures.

  7. Perfect silhouette on you. Mais oui, ALL my bottoms are skirts! Again, with that famous “hip-centric” pear shaped figure, I abhor pants on me, and resolved decades ago to stick to skirts. Mine range from denim to twill to fine gabardine, etc. etc., but most days I am in a denim skirt, my version of jeans. Today for lunch out with hubby and son I wore a knee length slightly A-line dark denim skirt, navy tights, short boots, a blue and green print shirt, and a green jacket, rolled at the sleeves. A dark blue enamel butterfly pin of my mother’s on the jacket. Desperately trying to channel spring amid the snow!

I get surprising and interesting reactions to my constant wearing of skirts, as I’m sure many of you do when you wear them. People often seem to think I am “dressing up”, when for me it is just every day, casual wear, easy as pie. This speaks to the ubiquity now of pants on women, probably. Men often seem befuddled, but give very favorable reactions. One repair man looked at me in my boring, less than striking denim skirt, T shirt and sweater get-up, and blurted very sincerely, “I like the way you dress!” It was not come-on-y at all. Reactions like that give me courage to continue in the face of the constant “pants propaganda” out there!

    1. You don’t wear it more because you haven’t yet figured out how to style it to perfection. Devote an hour to styling it until you hit that love moment.

    2. nell, thank you. I do often get the same reaction (people reading as “dressed up”) when I wear skirts or dresses even if I’ve styled very casually.

  8. Hi, I’m wondering how Eileen Fisher runs in size. I’m normally a Petite Medium at places like Ann Taylor, Loft, etc. I heard one should size down, but I have a thick waist, stomach-but skinny legs and flat rear ;-). Apple, unfortunately. I am also slightly busty, so wondering if you can give any advice on not only this skirt, but jeans, tops, sweaters, tanks, etc. As best you can. The skirt looks lovely on you! I will be in London and Cornwall (very casual there!) from the last week in May to the last week in June-more summer than spring overall. Unfortunately, I wear Clark’s sneakers almost everywhere do to a bad hip, but try to find a low heel or sandal for theatre. Thanks so much!

    1. Hi Dee, when I’ve tried on Ann Taylor pieces in recent months, I find Petite 6 and either a Petite Small in sweaters and a PM in tees. My experience with Eileen Fisher is that the tops run larger than the bottoms. In EF I’m a Petite Small or an XS in “regular” sizes for almost all tops/sweaters/jackets. In pants I’m usually either a 6 Petite or Petite Small (jersey pieces). The one exception is the Ponte Knit jeans; I sized up to an 8P for comfort but they are still quite fitted. I’ve also noticed that EF has added more fitted pieces in the last few collections. Hope this helps!

      1. Thanks so much. If I am able to buy anything, I guess I may have to order both and see what fits. I’ll have to look up what their return policy is. I usually am a P8 at AT in bottoms-PM in tops. Thanks for your reply!

  9. You look wonderful in these skirt outfits, which highlight your beautiful legs. In the winter, I usually avoid less-than-full-length skirts because I dislike wearing tights–the synthetic material irritates my sensitive skin. Have you tried the Wolford fine cotton tights that are pictured in your “Other Items” strip? If so,what do you think of them?

    1. Hi Leslie, thank you! The tights I’m wearing in the second outfit (bone cardigan) are those Wolford cotton ribbed tights. I find them very comfortable and they do seem to be quite durable.

  10. You look fantastic in skirts, especially with your great legs. I have chunky thighs and have trouble finding flattering trousers, so I have invested in a large collection of skirts. The other day I wore a black cotton pencil skirt with black boat neck tee, leopard print flats and a scarf. everywhere I went, people remarked how dressed up (but smart) I looked! I like a lot of the clothes you wear, but am too nervous ordering them on line as US and Australian sizing is quite different

  11. How fun to see you in a skirt! As so many others have said, you look wonderful in it. As a jeans and pants devotee, I do understand the ease and comfort of wearing them–but you can definitely rock the skirts.

I bought the same skirt a few months ago, loved it when I tried it on but haven’t yet worn it. I thought it would get me out of my pants rut but I a) am a jeans chick through and through, b) work from home so rarely bother to wear skirts (or anything that might suffer from exposure to lots of cat hair!), and c) live in northern New England, so these days I need to wear clothes that permit long underwear beneath. I hope to wear this skirt once things get warmer. You’ve inspired me. 🙂

    1. sosusam, thank you very much. I’m a “jeans chick” too, but it’s nice to mix it up now and then. I think this skirt would also work well over leggings for a more casual look.
