smartest shoes on the block…

Vince Rita sandal

I know I’ve been banging this drum for a while, but I couldn’t be happier about the return of block heel footwear. They’re a great option to add a little height without sacrificing comfort and stability.

Now that it’s officially Spring, our fancy might turn to sandals. Above from Vince, a very modern and sleek look. These would add a lot of oomph to a minimalist, monochromatic outfit.

If you have some special occasions coming up this spring and summer, consider options in suede, which adds a luxe look, and has become a year-round option. Styles like this one above can go dressy, but would also be fabulous with white jeans and a marinière.

Color, you say?

How about these?

Another plus to block heels…no getting stuck in sidewalk grates or turf at outdoor functions! Have you added any block heel shoes or sandals to your footwear wardrobe?

  1. Not so crazy about the black and the red block heel shoes.
Maybe because I am not a tall woman and I would feel a little…blocky myself in them. However, the Vince shoes with the block heel are also a little edgy which I think is an important addition to this style.
As a post broken ankle sufferer with ongoing swelling issues, I am happy to see better mid-height heel options but I still want that cool vibe. It’s never easy to find but ‘option 1’ fits the bill!

  2. I have big ankles and wide calves so the blocked heel has a tendency to make my ankles and calves look somewhat Frankensteinish. I need footwear that let’s people know “hey. it’s a SHE”! It’s funny though because I have some sandal references into my post today: http://atypical60.com/2016/03/21/how-to-wear-a-maxi-for-women-over-50-maxi-mizing-your-potential/

It’s a shame because a lot of those shoes are REALLY nice–especially those snakeskin ones! Nice Post!

  3. I am struggling with the block heel love. I think it reminds me too much of those shoes I wore in the 7th grade! Maybe my eye will adjust eventually, along with my opinion of cropped flares

    1. Please don’t let me get used to cropped flares. I will lose all faith in myself if I ever end up thinking they are ok.

  4. I bought a pair of block heel pumps earlier this year (AGL’s, my new favorite brand for stylish comfort) and I wear them on almost all business trips. They look professional and I can walk easily through any city or airport. Love ’em. I think block-heeled sandals are a little bit harder, just because by nature they should be well, lighter I suppose. I think they work for casual wear, but for more formal occasions it may be hard to avoid the frumpy factor.

  5. I was not feeling the block heel until I went to the opening of a local Marmi Shoe store. Marmi Shoes and their parent company Wolff Shoe Company make brands like VANELi and Marmi has more extensive sizes and widths than store. I saw the red studded sandal you feature on a variety of women, different sizes, different heights, different ages, and personal styles and that completely sold me. I think with shoes like these it’s nice to see on the woman because they’re not as blocky and they’re super comfortable. And now I desperately want those shoes from Vince!!

  6. I love the block heel! Stable, give me some lift and the styles are not too matronly. I really miss a high heel, but after my last tromp through an airport in excruciating pain, I am done with stilettos~:(

  7. Shoes are my biggest struggle. I’ve had difficult feet my entire life, and now have to be very cautious with shoes to avoid joint damage. I feel like my grandmother most of the time.

  8. Oh yes, these shoes are totally you. I would stock up if I were you haha. You never know when they won’t be available any longer. And it is soooo nice to be able to walk, not feel your feet and still look stylish. These shoes do that.
