“one and done”

Bobbi Brown eyeshadow stick, Trish McEvoy lip crayon

As I mentioned in Tuesday’s post, my daily makeup routine is on the minimal side. So I’m always on the lookout for products that do double duty and are easy to apply.

I’ve used Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow for some years and have been happy with it, but when I stopped to pick up a refill this week, a Sales Associate suggested this newer product in a stick format. For the sake of research 😉 I agreed give it a try and wound up purchasing this one instead. Just like the original, it works as a both base and shadow, goes on smoothly, stays put, and doesn’t settle into creases. But the stick format is more portable and travel-friendly. Apply on the lid along the lash line, then blend up with your finger. Because I have hooded eyes, I also apply above the crease and blend in. I chose color “Taupe” which is a nice “no-makeup makeup” choice, but may try some other shades too.

I love the definition I get with a lip liner, but on a daily basis don’t want to bother with it. Trish McEvoy “Beauty Booster” Lip and Cheek Color lets me define and add subtle color with one product. I like the color “Perfect Pink Shimmer” which isn’t too disco-glittery but is a great My Lips But Better color. It stays put much longer than most balms or glosses, but is still plenty moisturizing. I have not yet tried as a cheek color, but again, it’s a great travel-friendly option.

Neither of these products requires a sharpener, another plus.

For the sake of simplifying and streamlining my morning skincare routine, I’ve been using my Revision Intellishade as a one-step moisturizer, sunscreen and tint, applied after serum. I was initially concerned that it might not be moisturizing enough on its own, but so far, so good.

  1. When I am really in a hurry, or need to pack a carry-on for a spur-of-the moment trip, I always pack Maybelline’s Dream Fresh BB Beauty Balm and Skin protector. It’s so inexpensive, I liberally apply it after cleansing, then gently go over my face with a moist cotton pad to blend. It has SPF 30, moisturizer and provides light cover. Then I get out my Coco Rouge lipstick in Mademoiselle and dab a little on my cheeks and apply it to my lips. It’s perfect for both. These are my two favorite multi-taskers.

  2. Does Revision have any Parabens in its content? I love a minimalist approach to makeup and enjoy products that work for more than one task.

    1. Jill, I’ve checked the ingredient list on the box, and do not see any that contain the word “paraben.”

  3. Chapstick. Plain, original Chapstick at a buck is the great multitasker. It’s the great blur product. It is the great filler. I’ve written about this gem quite a few times. It, when swiped across the upper cheekbone, even gives a dewy look to your skin! I’m never without!

  4. Susan I’m going in the same direction that you are. I like your choices today and will give both of them a try. I used to use Revision’s Intellishade but now use an ‘all in one’ BB cream with a higher SPF (hefty 16% zinc!) called Replenix Ultimatte perfection SPF 50 that my aesthetician recommended. I like it even more than the Revision product.
    Thanks for sharing your finds!!

  5. I’ve been using Revision Intellishade Original in the cold months and Matte in summer or traveling in warmer climates over my daily serum, Wander Beauty On the Glow Blush and Illuminator in Soft Pink/Nude Glow (on cheeks, as highlights on cheek, forehead, cupids bow, and on the brow bone), the Bobbi Brown Long Wear Cream Shadow Stick in Sand Dune, and Dior Addict Lip Glow in Pink (to jazz it up, I add lip pencil in a tawny peach pink). I throw on a little smudge of coffee colored eyeliner and Lance Grandiose Wide Angle Mascara…voila, I’m good to go. For me this is the most minimalist I’ve ever been as a certified ‘high maintenance’ gal. It’s amazing when I travel now how little room is taken up by my make-up bag.

  6. I’ve been using the Bobbi Brown Shadow sticks for a couple of years – originally bought them for a trip where every square centimeter counted. Once I tried them I never went back to shadow with a brush!! Have been whittling down my toiletries for travel and these are perfect!!!

  7. I also use Revision Intellishade and like it. Elta MD tinted sunscreen is also good. For brows, I like Anastasia tinted brow gel in Granite, which works with cooler brow tones (former brunette, now white/silver). I love a bright lipstick, but for speed and travel I like Clinique Black Honey almost lipstick. Does not require precise application the way a vivid lipstick does.
At home, I love MAC prep+prime before lipstick – makes lipstick last, is not drying, and lipstick will not feather. It does not have any color and comes in a skinny lipstick format so it is very easy and quick to apply. I wear matte or cream lipsticks – if there is a lot of “slip” in the lipstick, not sure if it would work as well.

  8. I love multi-taskers but I have to admit to being a bit of a cosmetics magpie. I know I should streamline and minimise but I love looking at all of the colours of my eyeshadow and lipsticks collections.
That Bobbi Brown eye shadow looks like a great product (I love her makeup) I might need to go and have a look at the BB counter in Jenners (big, and very old, department store in Edinburgh) :oD

  9. I’m a hardcore Patricia Wexler fan. Been using her skin care products since she launched her line at Bath and Body Works about 10 years ago. She developed many lines for other well-known brands, before her eponymous line… it has changed my skin for the better and I still love it. For makeup, I’m a devotee of Laura Mercier.

  10. I don’t really have any multitasking products, except the Revision Intellishade, which I adore! I don’t wear eye shadow, but don’t leave home without mascara and a bit of lip gloss.

  11. Hi, I am new here and love the blog! My favorite multi-tasker is COTZ PLUS mineral sunscreen, 58 SPF. 10% titanium dioxide and 3% zinc oxide. I have fair, neutral skin and it is just the right tint to act as a make-up primer, light concealer, or even a base on its own in the winter plus you can’t beat the sunscreen effect! I’ve even been known to put it on my eyelids in a pinch. A tube is around $25 and lasts for about a year.

  12. Sans going to a dermatologist for product, is there a reliable online source to buy Revision Intellishade?

  13. Indeed, both the Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier shadow sticks are great. I like a lighter/neutral color on the lid and also use a small angled brush to apply darker colors right along the lash line/tightline. They stay forever without budging! As for lips, I did try that Trish McEvoy Beauty Booster pencil but it was not for me at all. I really love both the Surratt Lipsliques and the new Chanel Rouge Coco Stylos (which come in fewer color than the Lipsliques) because they’re very, very moisturizing yet provide more than sheer color. True, they’re not multitaskers because they’re not for cheeks, but they are moisturizing enough that I can forego lip balm–which makes them multitaskers in a way for someone with lips as dry as mine. Have you tried either? I think you’d like them. Perhaps give them a go sometime–all in the name of research, of course. 😉

  14. This stick is a knock off idea from Mally Beauty. Hers have been around for some time. They are amazing liners/shadows – lasts without primer, color is gorgeous, and incredibly easy to immediately give smoky, lustrous eyes.
