outfit re-mix

Givenchy Pandora bag, long knit vest

I don’t know about you, but I often struggle with achieving a balance between novelty and simplicity. It’s always fun and stimulating to have something new to wear, but at the same time the whole point of developing a signature style and knowing what works for your body and lifestyle is to make getting dressed easier (and avoid costly mistakes). When it comes to posting outfits, I’m trying to balance keeping it interesting with consistently reflecting my personal style.

Sometimes it’s just a matter of swapping out one piece and/or accessories to freshen a look, and that’s what I’ve done here. This outfit re-mix uses the same top and long vest I featured a few weeks ago, and as with the first outfit, I’ve kept the look clean and minimal. I’ve been wearing the heck out of this vest (now sold out) and will be on the lookout for something similar in a lighter weight for summer. Most of the other pieces are from prior seasons or years.

The real star of the outfit, though is this Givenchy bag.

Givenchy Pandora Pure mini

A red bag adds such punch to an outfit and this one is SO me. The sleek and streamlined look is modern and the size is just right for day-to-evening use. It’s such a perfect marriage of classic shape and color with a very functional design that I know it will have longevity. I spotted and tried this on at the Givenchy boutique in Las Vegas and loved it immediately but still came home and thought about it for a few days before ordering. Not a moment’s regret since. 🙂

How do you balance the desire for novelty with maintaining a consistent style?

  1. I am in love with the bag, but I really want to complement you on the way you are wearing the two rings. I wouldn’t have thought of wearing them like that, but it looks terrific. Kiki of Montparnasse, but with class!

  2. I try to buy styles that work for me and have similar things in different colors or fabrics. We have long transitional seasons so a sweater vest in wool and a similar sweater vest in a lighter fabric can stretch outfit basics from cool to warm. I hadn’t thought about a belted vest, but there are so many out there and they’re shorter, I think I need to try some on. I want something to put on over short sleeves so I’m not frozen in my over air conditioned office but can shed the layer or at least unbutton it when I walk out into the summer heat.

  3. Love the new bag, Sue. I have trouble making the leap to purchase a new bag. Especially if I have others that I still like and never use… and then feel guilty for not using. I’m trying to switch up my purse more often and thus use more of the bags I already own. But moving stuff from one bag to the other is a pain, and I always leave something behind. Like a couple of weeks ago, I changed from one bag to the other, then changed back, then changed again…and somewhere in the shifting, my wallet was in one bag and I had a different one with me. Thank goodness I was only at my physiotherapist’s clinic which is near home so I could run back for my wallet to be able to pay. And not somewhere far from home and where I had already consumed what I would not have money to pay for…shudder. Hubby says I need a check list for everything. Guess he’s right:)

  4. The bag is gorgeous, Susan, and accents your outfit perfectly. I’ve been “shopping” in my closet lately b/c quite honestly, I’ve been buying a little too much and my credit card needs a “time out”! 😉 B/c of you, I’ve learned the fine art of accessorizing and my French Kande pieces are on heavy rotation with the outfits I wear so there’s some consistency in that department. I tend to wear lots of neutrals like black, gray, and khaki now and then, and then accessorize like crazy and add a splash of color or a crazy-print scarf to the mix.

  5. There’s always a simplistic elegance to your look. Chic is the word I would use. Though I know the word is over used, but in this case, it’s most appropriate. I view chic as a minimalist, clean lines.

  6. Hi Susan, I’ve only been blogging for a year now, so am still getting to know all of the ladies on the blogging circuit. Today is the first time I’ve visited your blog and I’m delighted to find you. We’re almost the same age, and like you I strive to have my own sense of style. I need to work through some more of your posts to get to know you better, but just want to say how much I love that beautiful handbag – such a classy piece.

  7. I think you have done very very well with this bag. It is so perfect that I am surprised you had to think about it for a couple of says. I presume the price caused this haha. It is such an eye catcher. As I commented on your previous post with this outfit, I really like it.
